I live in Norway, so the phone bill is a significant factor. Also, the wife and kids are sleeping in the next room, which would require me to step outside on the porch in the middle of the night with my cellphone. Yet also, I'm so tired I

I take this to mean that if the nodes are disconnected from each other, Synctus disallows all access to certain files on node A; i.e. the files that node B currently owns. Do I understand correctly?

Customs aren't law enforcement, they just like to think so. The request to enter a password should be treated as a impolite request, which you should politely deny.

Unless I misheard him, he made a working implementation of the Hack ALU, which is magnificent all by itself. Hack is a virtual fully working computer that students build completely from the NAND up during a semester: http://www.catonmat.ne

I said " practice in keeping your code terse". Actually trying to golf production code would just be insane. Programmers commonly put in completely unnecessary abstractions "just in case", and a golfing mindset will help you avoid a lot o

Code golfing may seem like just a fun nerdy "sport", but it's actually really useful practice in keeping your code terse and your unnecessary abstractions to a minimum. I recommend everyone to try to do really well in a few code golfing c

Interesting and convincing. I would love to see similar studies for different kinds of games. For example, after playing Braid for 4 hours straight, I had trouble performing normal day-to-day tasks naturally for about half an hour.

I was genuinely thrilled that the article brought up the points about causality vs. correlation. Then I was sad, because it reminded me how rare it is. Almost every news article about research I've read the past 20 years has been of the

Fully agree with the first post-it point, but I disagree with: > The only real solution is to let people use the word "password" if they really want. It's still orders of magnitude safer than having them keep a file/email/post-it full o

You should have different assets for very different resolutions anyway. E.g. small details look good on a desktop screen, but obstructive when scaled down to mobile resolution.

I've had great success with Peppermint and Aloe vera. Both plants are useful, can take a lot of abuse, and doesn't require any green fingers on your part. - Peppermint can be used to make tea, mojito, as flavour for ice cream, or you can j

Can anyone please let me know their reasons for downvoting this comment? Lately I've seen a lot of what appears to be mindless pile-on downvoting of perfectly on-topic, polite, informative comments. It is making me wonder if there's some

Happy to hear that! I'll wait until we upgrade to the newest version before I start, though. No use complaining about stuff that's already been fixed. :)
