Thanks. I was gonna ask parent how he does it because if it's easy for him he might know some magic I'm not aware of.

Good point. By 'best tooling' I'm mainly thinking about two things: - How easily can I debug things if something breaks? - In case I'm not happy with a certain behavior is it a dead end or can I simply swap out a parameter / function / modu

So why bothering at this point? If I have to optimize for a given platform, I'd rather use the programming environment that gives me the best tooling.

A springboard on top of a springboard? Look, it doesn't actually have to be so many apps. I'd split it into "Music", "Videos" and "Devices" for the synched data.

Oh so instead copying Safari's logo they now copy Firefox? http://elementaryos.org/sites/default/files/user/5/midori.pn... Elementary might have something going on for them but originality is not it apparently.

From the screenshot it looks like an OSX clone to the point. It seems like the UI designer switched to 2d-dock, inverted the colors, replaced the apple with an 'e' and called it a day. Not that this is bad per se though. Edit: They even pre

The way I see it Mochizuki's work could turn out to be like Maxwell's theory of electromagnetism. It could give us a definitive theory on the nature of prime numbers, but first someone needs to come and understand and solve it. A 'solution'

Was it obvious? I always thought DropBox won because of its built-in viral marketing through sharing and the streamlined installation + web frontend. But was that before or after investors began pouring money into it?

I think that's too small. I'd rather see something like DEPOSIT = MIN(MAX($20, 0.1 * RevenueLossDuringTakedownProcess), $100) A small content provider a) is able to never make a bogus claim since he will not do it automatically and b) shoul

overflow exception is plausible (it overflows anyway but the question is whether the system will let it continue). Performance timing without validating your results is, well, not worth anything.

You're right, I was mixing something up. You need mutable data structures to show the behaviour I mean, see my other comment in this tree.

▲

Right, of course it was the mutable use of an internal data structure. class Foo: bar = [1] foo1 = Foo() foo2 = Foo() foo2.bar.append(2) print foo1.bar print foo2.bar prints [1, 2] [1, 2] And that's the reason why I d

Well in my case foo = Foo(); print foo.bar will print 1, so it does 'kinda' work as a default value. And that's ok, I just remembered there to be some case where it didn't behave the way I expected it to (e.g. instance member assignment ove

What's even worse IMO is the lack of a proper built-in 'super'. The self parameters at least serve the purpose of deciding whether a function is a class function or object function. So yeah, I agree, python's OOP is kind of awkward. I love

Not the one you replied to, but one thing that hits me as awkward is the default static behavior of variables. something like class Foo: bar = 1 means that bar is now a static class member (static in Java's sense). It needs to be

That plus the percentage of iOS users actually buying apps is much higher than on Android. Apple's Appstore, as far as I understand, has still the biggest market volume for developers by a good margin.

If you are forced to implement your own implementation I would rather switch to it completely. IMO it's better to be bold and get problems detected by having a wide adoption of a function rather than hide it in an edge case where problems

I can see the benefits in terms of security but not in terms of space. So what if the application folder uses half a gig more, if I never have to use installers for most applications. And as far as your example goes: From what I understand

Well they are dynamically linked but usually only to Apple provided libraries as far as I know. It's not like every app installs a dozen new dlls to your system and that's what makes the big difference. It's what makes Mac apps (at least

You raise a good point. Why are most open source programs dynamically linked again? Static linking is one of the nice things about the OSX ecosystem. If only Apple wouldn't unnecessarily break their runtime environment every few releases.
