I can only give you anecdotes but all of my grandmothers and great aunts have friends and frequently go out with them. I'm not trying to argue with you about the pitiful state of elder care in the US though. I agree fully.

Men are lonely, isolated, and lack the social support that women do. Not uncommon to hear someone say "if it wasn't for ..... I would just disappear." Men lack that "...." especially later in life when parents have

Friend of a friend built and ran a very successful restaurant for a decade give or take. Staff was treated and paid well and everyone was happy. Eventually they sold the place because they just didn't want to run it any more and the ne

You may be talking about the old course and not the revamped one. The revamped version of the course is now a Coursera "specialization" which are multiple courses that are either theory or project based

I'd probably just recommend the classic Andrew Ng courses on Coursera if you want to learn Machine Learning.

This goes beyond Youtube. Most ads are absolutely malicious and the web is unsafe and unusable without an adblocker. The FBI themselves recommend using an adblocker to stay safe online https://www.ic3.gov/Media/Y2022&#x

Very few people in tech are in it for noble reasons. Although, a nice pair of golden handcuffs can let you delude yourself into thinking what you are doing is noble. I can't imagine people working on shadow profiles at Facebook think w

I fully buy it. Ethics and morals are a few rungs on the ladder beneath compensation for most software engineers. If the board wants to focus more on being a non-profit and safety, and Altman wants to focus more on commercialization and the

This goes back to what the original commenter was saying. The rumor is that Altman was planning to launch an AI chip startup to take on Nvidia before his ejection from OpenAI.

Sure, I'd agree selling access is not the only method but given that there is a story on the front page of HN about once a week about why open-source maintainers should be paid and how the current model isn't sustainable, in my op

I don't see copyright or a record label as artificial scarcity. I think the artist should have every right to profit from their work.

None of that is relevant to this discussion. We are talking about someone who spent time growing a skill and is charging people who want him to use that skill for whatever they are hiring them for.

Using the phrase "artificial scarcity" to describe someone's skills is ridiculous. A voice actor or artist being paid for their skills is not rent seeking.

What's a meaningful question to you? Genuinely asking. All I care about is what's the pay and what's management like. What do you feel I should care about and ask about in an interview?

I completely agree that self-driving and electric cars aren't the answer but investing in public transport is. You won't get an argument out of me about that.

I do not believe "it's as dangerous as a human driver" is a good reason to look past all the problems with self-driving cars. There should be a higher standard than that.
