Also a Swede and I don't think we learned much at all about pre-WW2 Finland. We mainly learned about the Winter and Continuation War and the many Finnish war children that ended up in Sweden [1]. I remember one of them visiting our sch

Much of what steno dictionaries do is just that. Here's plover's default main.json dictionary [0]. The ^ character in entries works like glue. So entries that end with ^ attach to the next thing you write, and entries that start w

You don't necessarily need to toggle plover off to write words that aren't in your dictionary. You can just fingerspell them [0]. (although that's generally not as fast as typing them with qwerty). It's been a little whi

Overall I do really like the new UI, but the lack of taskbar customizability does indeed suck (I used to have it at the top, but now that I'm forced to have it at the bottom I've set it to auto-hide). The Settings menu on the othe

Which is why it shouldn't be done in isolation; you also need to have other regulations in place to increase the incentive to build more and better housing.

I really don't think you can look at something like rent control in isolation and say "rent control good" or "rent control bad", because how well it works really depends on what other regulatory decisions you make.

What about coconut milk? That has been called milk for more than a century. Should we start calling it coconut broth instead? Restricting the use of the word milk to mammal products is silly imo. From a consumer standpoint it makes sense to

The premise of the article clearly isn't "white equals bad" though, it's "ancient Rome wasn't as white as white supremacists make it out to be". That's a pretty uncontroversial take imo.

If you disagree with the essay then you could at least offer a counterpoint. Because Roman history does seem to be pretty damn white-washed, especially in far-right circles.

Note that all entries that have the format Vinyl on that site can be ignored, as the dynamic range calculations don't work well on audio recorded from vinyl records.
