I don't think you can really compare the last 50 years (anything more recent and it's really hard to judge how 'great' an author will be) with a 150 year period. Especially when you are including the Lost Generation which was, frankly, cont

I think the concerns are the interactions between user accounts. I don't think anyone is too worried about the hidden root account having access to your user account data.

The thing is, this just doesn't matter. They still have a Chrome ad at the top of every page and if people are looking to find Chrome it's already simple. The outgoing links don't matter, because the sites the Chrome page links to are also

When you go to the purchase screen you can choose between "contact me," and "don't contact me." To Louis' credit the default is "don't contact me," but I as a fan actually opted in to receive future notifications. I fully expect to be notif

I don't think there is any evidence to support the notion that "a lot of people purchased this only to support the experiment." Sure, some folks on a HN thread commented to this effect, but I think that the vast majority of the 111000+ peop

Maybe not for you, but I'm willing to bet "same as Apple and Google" does cut it for Mom. (Note: I'm talking about the figurative mom, not your biological mother.)

"DS-5 CE completes the serious app developer toolkit with a comprehensive C, C++ and Assembly" I think it's fair to say they expect most people to be writing C/C++, not Assembly.

It doesn't matter how much the MPAA costs in relation to current levels of BitTorrent traffic. The comparison you need to make is the cost of the MPAA vs. the amount of money Hollywood made from Netflix. From the MPAA's perspective, if ther

No, we are not really talking about unvested shares to be earned in the future. We're talking about unvested shares. These are shares that employees have already been paid. This payment is contingent upon the employee continuing to work at

What? Your first paragraph concludes that if everyone is checking Verisign's CRL they become the single point of failure for half the internet, yet you conclude the a better solution is to only check Apple's certs, making them the ONLY poin

CA is amazing for everything described above, and doable from the SV, but it is much less convenient than I imagine Vancouver Island is. Living in Seattle I can be actively engaged in any of the above with a 45 minute drive or less. From t

No, the article makes it clear that PayPal is not a licensed bank in the state of Illinois and this behavior is presumably illegal. The author claims to have filed a complaint with the state's attorney general.

I think there are a few key points that highlight why offsetting risk is not a valid justification for this behavior: -A 30% default rate is absurdly high. There is no way 30% of the cards being used over the phone are stolen. -Even if usag

This was my first thought as well. I built a similar robot in terms of physical design and motorized capabilities a couple years ago for ~$400. It wasn't controlled by a phone, which will admittedly adds some complexity, but I really can't

You really think short-long-short-short-long is better? It seems confusing enough to be of dubious value. Why not have seasons and months be equivalent and each equal to 73 days in length? That way you'd had the 50th day of summer, for exam

I don't know about the overall upgrade pricing for OSX, but if you wanted to go from 10.4 to 10.6, they required you to buy the full suite with iLife and all for $129 or whatever it was. $30 upgrades are only supported if you upgrade every
