The idea of a EU BSD fork sounds terrible. What needs to happen is government funding for key open source infrastructure projects that require it like OpenSSL, OpenBSD, GnuPG, etc.

It would be a huge mistake to cut of China from the internet. Whatever power the US wields militarily as well as economically is an absolute joke compared to the power it wields culturally. American culture through movies, tv and music domi

Of course there is a divide between European countries but should the divide between Europe and Russia and the US become larger, the former will quickly lose significance.

Yes they do. Currently at least in NRW English lessons start in 2nd grade of primary school, so we are talking about 6-8 year old children. So you have to keep in mind that they aren't (all) able to fluently read and write in their na

Between a violent Russia and an arrogant US we might actually get a strong united Europe. As a European I can't help but feel that this is a very good thing.

I don't think people imagine having better experiences with Uber than with taxis in some parts of the world. That doesn't mean that Uber provides a better service than all taxis everywhere. San Francisco's dysfunctional taxi

Large infrastructure projects in Germany usually fail, projects involving the internet or technology especially so. If there is such a thing as a most wrong stereotype, german efficiency is it.

I don't see how it has done so at all, at least in Germany. Precisely because the industry is so highly regulated I don't see how Uber offers anything that I don't get with a regular taxi.

The problem isn't that the implementation is bad. The template language is designed in a way that makes a fast implementation impossible. There is no reasonable way of improvement. A problem that is solved in Django 1.8 by making it po

Popularity is a strong argument. It's however not the only argument. In the case of git and hg popularity is important because the other arguments are too weak to matter in comparision. That's not the case for GNU Octave or Linux.
