I'm Daniel Kehoe, interviewed by Richard MacManus for his article. I suppose we can nitpick semantics, but I think it should be said that Lit is properly a library (and a small one), not a framework. Significantly, since Lit relies onl

Some context. The WELL was founded in 1985 (and is still active). Commercial Internet service providers were not widely available until the late 1990s. For threaded public discussions (forums), Usenet was available to people at universities

Tod, thanks for submitting this. I wrote this guide to installing Ruby with Frum because, after using Frum for a few days, I think it's a great alternative to rbenv, RVM, chruby, or asdf. From the article: "There are no shims (unl

I've written a guide to Install Ruby with Frum[0]. I think it's a great alternative to rbenv, RVM, chruby, or asdf. From the article: "There are no shims (unlike Asdf or Rbenv) and it doesn’t override the cd command (unlike R

I'd also like to see a benchmark against chruby/ruby-install. I believe many developers moved from rbenv to chruby for speed.

State management on the front end? Is that the differentiator that forces the need for a full SPA framework? Anything else that can't be done purely with web components?

This question comes up a lot among Ruby beginners so I wrote an article that goes into detail. I explain why it's worthwhile to install a version manager. I recommend asdf for those developing Rails web applications (which require Ruby

The San Francisco I know (and miss) began the day Weldon Kees's car was found next to the Golden Gate Bridge (July 18, 1955) and ended when Lawrence Ferlinghetti died (February 22, 2021). You can quibble with the dates, but everything

Nyepi (Day of Silence) is tomorrow here in Bali. There will be no radio, tv, cellular data, and the airport will be closed for the day. I kinda like the idea of one Silent Day a year. So if you reply to this comment I won't reply :-)

Are you using JavaScript build tools? May not need them if you use module CDNs like jspm.dev or skypack. ES6 imports may solve the load order issues.

The article states a stackless approach can't work "at scale." I think people who use web components will argue that web components are great when you're working at scale. (Disclosure: I'm quoted in the article.)

I always heard this advice but didn’t know why. So I looked into it. Basically, the system Ruby is fine for running sysadmin scripts (as long as you don’t add gems or try to update it). But don’t use it for development because: - the defaul

Adding Webpack to Rails 6 added enormous complexity. Now DHH is trying to unwind that. Maybe the maintainers will remove Webpack in Rails 7? In any case, I love DHH's concept of "conceptual compression."
