This is also why SSR JS frameworks are gaining traction. But I still think as a product grows eventually you need some kind of formal API to help separate concerns and scale teams. Even back in the multi-page application days people doing l

It depends a lot on the product, how wide and deep your API is and the division of labor. Like are frontend and backend separate teams? do people do full stack? At some point there will be a need for some "bloated" API requests. G

You can see how dysfunctional your backend is by the number of JOINs your frontend people need to make. I call it frontend JOIN ratio. At a job I worked at "fix it in the frontend" was a running joke.

I haven't used Heroku in ages, but I remember it being pretty easy. Just wondering how do you "Kick off deploy of ECS" services? The solution I have currently is using: aws ecs update-service --cluster={ CLUSTER_NAME } --serv

Is it just me or ECS is relatively complicated? I mean, it is no k8, but still you need to set up a lot of stuff to get it to work.

That is called stack ranking and even though it is used in a lot of companies it is widely considered a bad idea. A lot of large companies don't actually use it.

In a previous job I had to declare war against google tag manager (tool that let marketers inject random crap in your web application without developer input). Burned some bridges and didn't win, performance is still crap. After those

The public charging infra is a mess, but at least you don't have to deal with watered down gas I am not joking, in Brazil it is a serious concern. People always try to fuel up only on the gas stations they trust.

So you can run NodeJS code in the browser, even though both are JS-based, NodeJS has a bunch of APIs that deal with things like file systems that the browser doesn't have. For example, imagine you have a lib that converts markdown to h

Technically this approach puts the burden on the build toolchain, the toaster only needs a WASM runtime which is actually not that big of an ask (it is far easier to put a standalone WASM runtime in a toaster than a full browser)

I don't think you grasp quite the implications of what I was saying, this kind of approach could take _seconds_ to even start running your python application. Large python codebases could take like a minute to start if loaded that way.

Good points, I always wondered why it took so long for NodeJS to support fetch() and WebSockets and other standard APIs. I thought those were part of V8, but I guess not!

A ton of NodeJS modules are not part of V8 at all, like "fs" or "path" because those don't really make sense in a browser context. Basically everything that is not a W3C standard is probably not implemented in V8. L
