In my job we have metrics, but they are not mandated to employees. There are no targets and stuff like that, they are just there if you want to know. Managers track it and try to optimize for it, but nobody bonuses or employment is on the l

It is not much different from all the European, US and Japan car companies do in Brazil. Brazil has high tariffs (for pretty much everything imported) so companies set up local factories to make the goods. Thing is those factories are not f

The problem with this approach is that SQLite dialect is not the same as most production setups. Even if you use an ORM you often have manual queries or you are using a feature that is only supported in some databases (like geospatial queri

Yeah that is a good point, I also imagine lua is far easier (build/linking) to add into your application compared to pulling V8 or JavascriptCore. So if you only need a small language to do a couple thousand lines of code in than it st

Lua used to be very popular for embedding because the runtime was minuscule so it could run in very constrained environments (like old consoles). This is mostly a non-issue these days though. JS and Lua are very similar feature-wise and I i

It is because type inference has become a standard feature in most languages so you don't have to type AbstractBeanCounterSingletonFactoryFactory all the time. Also the duck typing crowd were rebelling against polymorphism and over-use

One of my biggest concerns of doing something like this is being too far away from specialist healthcare in my old age. I see my 70 year old mother struggling to find specialist doctors without going to the big city (which is 2 hours away).

I am not experienced with rust and borrow checkers, but my impression is that borrow checkers also statically ensures thread/async safety while most other memory safety systems don't. Is this accurate?
