Yes I used Caffeine as well... So IT not only reduced the security (because I couldn't use a sane setting like 15 minutes of inactivity), but also had 3rd party software running in my user account...

IMO the main argument for devs to use linux is that Docker can run without a VM (and without Docker Desktop which is now payed) in linux. If you do docker stuff with any sort of frequency it will save years-worth of your time.

I don't get the systemd hate, as a user I find it quite nice. Centralized place all services live and I can see all the stuff I use and need. Good CLI for inspecting services and getting logs. But like, I don't manage linux server

The most strange thing is that no one pays apple to put all the crap on the dock by default. At least HP gets money for bloatware.

Man I just got a mini-itx case and use a full-blown windows desktop next to my TV. Bought a "fly-mouse" (wireless mouse that works with gyroscope), set screen DPI to 200%. One thing I didn't expect is that my family ends up u

I was having a similar problem due to company managed profile. IT forced lock-computer and turn off screens on 2 minutes of inactivity. MacOS atrocious window management completely fumbles to restore window positions when external monitors

In my old project we used recover to give a HTTP 500 response, trigger a log/alert and restart our HTTP router and its middlewares in case of panic in some function. Restarting like that was faster and more stable than crashing the who

Yeah which is why I originally asked, some other languages don't really have a way to iterate over enums.

Of course the layoffs were planned during the RTO, that way they have to fire less people because a lot of them will leave on their own!

General programming languages theory question, is one supposed to iterate over enum entries or is that considered an antipattern? I have found myself needing to do that a few times and it always felt a bit dirty.

Dealing with old crappy codebases can really tank a product, especially if you don't have management support to fix the broken practices. I imagine the Teams project gets a lot of pressure to deliver features instead of fixing the unde

I imagine internally they have a hard time staffing the Teams project. Like VSCode is a WebView2 project but it is miles ahead of Teams in quality. At least on the client side features seems far more complex too. Teams used to use Angular 1

Funny that written summaries of voice calls are actually a really useful feature. One of those easy wins of applying AI tech: unobtrusive and useful.

The hardest part of keeping software sane is saying to no requirements. I like to say two things about software: Code is a liability The best code is no code

There is inherent complexity and self-inflicted complexity, they tend to go hand in hand but self-inflicted complexity can be exacerbated in bad projects. A lot of embedded software is just inherent complex, cars for example.

I worked in an IoT platform that consisted of 3 embedded CPUs and one linux board. The kicker was that the linux board could only talk directly to one of the chips, but had to be capable of updating the software running on all of them. That

Yes for first-hand contracts, which are impossible to get. So your options if you are not born into the first-hand contract queue (people put their 5 year old children on the queue) is to rent second-hand which was what I was doing. The HOA

No, it is just the messed up rental market in Stockholm. Government and HOA controls don't let people be landlords for more than 2 years of a time and require you to ask permission from the HOA and to have a reason. The actual apartmen
