I was just thinking of the projects I worked in and none of them would be a clean migration to not transpile typescript anymore in development mode. My main problem would be the typescript class/field modifiers, like you said I use rea

The main problem is when the optimizations silently fail because of seemingly innocent changes and suddenly your performance tanked 10x. This is a problem with any language really (CPU cache misses are a thing afterall and many non-dynamic

Thanks, interesting that there are a lot more typescript things that wouldn't be covered by the proposal besides enums (class/fields modifiers, function overloading, declare keyword, namespaces). Meaning the proposal would only re

There are some proposals for browsers to do type-stripping, removing/ignoring type-annotations so typescript (and flow) don't need transpilation anymore (except for enums I guess). NodeJS already started doing that in the latest v

It is easier to just completely disable all notifications for everything and manually enable as needed. The only notifications I have on are direct messages on whatsapp (no group messages) and slack during work hours +-30min only.

I imagine compression of JSON also adds significant overhead compared to ProtoBuf on top of extra memory usage. I don't disagree that people go for ProtoBuf a bit too eagerly though.

Yes it is a pain in the ass, but just for other people who read this, the bug was in the self-update code for the service worker. If you mess up the cache configuration it can make the service worker never look for an updated version of its

Yeah exactly, it is kinda insane how deep open source tech stacks have gone. We need a world where we can seamlessly synchronously (no IPC, no network) call a function from a 3rd party and be sure it doesn't make any network requests,

Sandboxing alone is a very important reason. Sandboxing 3rd party code inside existing applications for example. Like plugins for Photoshop-like applications or game mods. Portability is also a big plus for this kind of thing too.

Fair, I was mentally comparing to Go. I was a bit disappointed there wasn't more wrappers around basic OS stuff. Go stdlib wraps everything and does its best to make stuff cross-platform. In my specific case I was trying to send some D
