For what it's worth the US stage this year was a pretty professional production. Just viewing the pitches was worth the money. Notably, many of those that pitched -- including some competitors of ours, did not receive the award.

As a Canadian now living in Silicon Valley I think this is a perilous idea. The main problem is that Canada doesn't have near enough active VC investors. Hardly anywhere does, even Silicon Valley. Having them be the sole gatekeepers will fa

Khosla Ventures actually has two separate kinds of funds set up for such funding -- KV Seed for science experiments, and a larger fund for more classic investments. The main difference in branding for KV's funds is really only to the LPs, t

You're off by a factor of 1000, I think. The chart has units in thousands. So it consumes more than 5,269,000 barrels per day -- yielding 29 PJ or 337 GW continuously. Edit: Whoops. maxs has priority.

Hi Chuck, If you're still interested in a real company that's building highly efficient air engines (compression and expansion) for this, and other purposes, send us a message. We have a legitimate approach and will, in fact, sell people th

If there's a macro distinction on can make about Thiel's strategy versus others, it's a strong focus on the long term.

I'm a mentor; officially for two fellows, informally for another 6. Atop this, they move in my circles. It's a pro-bono relationship -- I'm working with them because I'm excited about them and what they're doing.

Great point; I've been thinking about this for some time. Would love to have more data, though! I'm also interested in any metabolic similarity either influence has to endurance athletics.

Knowing what happens to the averages is next to irrelevant in trying to do the extraordinary. Also importantly: these are CEOs, not founders. CEOs are often a different breed, and there is a selection effect for mainstream acceptability.

This is a very important step in the right direction. Russia, for example, shouldn't be exporting its wealth and replacing it with bad investments. But it is. Discovering these problems will lead to actual policy improvements. One wishes th

I think it's not the right metaphor. In class, the difference between an A and a B is 10%. In, say, Chess, the difference between a master and a grandmaster is that a grandmaster will win almost every time. I think that's a better scale.

Some data points: air compressors last in the field for 30 years, and tanks as long or longer. We anticipate that, having overcome the corrosion difficulty, an even longer lifetime should be achievable. We have vastly reduced thermal stress
