Hmm, isn't that what I said? They can treat people with a characteristic more favourably, but they can't exclude people without that characteristic from the start. I guess the difference is whether you can hire a minority candidat

Might be worth asking Reddit's r/legaladvice (but take what they say with a grain of salt). In the UK this would be illegal afaik - you are only allowed to favour one sex over the other if there are two equivalent applicants for a

Apart from everything else: Last time Russia invaded Ukraine they shot down a civilian air plane that was travelling from the Netherlands to Malaysia (MH17). A war between Russia and Ukraine would not just affect those two countries.

There are still different degrees to how much a source is biased, and I would argue that "Russian ex-military and RT commentator" is very high on the bias scale. Especially since he is from a place famous for heavy restrictions on

Right. I was hoping for something a bit more independent. From all I can tell this is just the opinion of a Russian ex military officer posted on a random blog. Not a particularly great source for independent geopolitical analysis.

Russia is also pretty dependent on the revenues from supplying the gas, so I'm not sure if it would be in anyone's interests to disrupt the supply.

That seems like an odd argument to make. They probably only got that funding because they agreed to slim down their workforce.

I know this sounds horrible but in the days of covid and working from home, what are companies supposed to do if they have to lay off large amounts of people? Make them all risk their health to come to an in-person event, only to be fired?

AFAIK iOS actually uses the pattern of veins below the fingertip rather than an image of the fingerprint itself. So I can't imagine this would be enough to unlock an iPhone.

One of my sites has been using a ranking algorithm based on this article for over 10 years now. Nobody ever complained, so it must be pretty good.

Presumably there are parts which are patented and public (how the vaccine works in principle), and then there are parts which are not patented but a trade secret (how to actually manufacture it at scale). This kind of thing is very common.

I'm not an expert by any means, but my impression is that, while they certainly still have some influence, lobbyists and big companies hold a lot less sway in European politics than in the US. Part of that may be tighter rules around c

The only reason there is fear is because people keep posting stories like these without putting them into context. It has been clear for a while now that the Pfizer vaccine works and is safe. Just because Pfizer has chosen to keep collectin

It's not an emotional appeal though. It's pretty clear that a high vaccination rate will be beneficial to the overall health and prosperity of a population. I don't care about people getting vaccinated because it makes me fee

I think the problem is not necessarily the loss in revenue due to "not harvesting data" but rather the cost of all the compliance measures and new processes the GDPR requires.
