I'd love to see the points flash according to their subject matter. Red for war, blue for peace/neutral.

Definitely. Current domain names have been around so long they seem natural, but they're pretty arbitrary given the way the web is used today. Honestly, how often do you type in a full domain anyway? I generally type the first couple of let

I'd be interested to hear what 'normal', non-power users of Twitter think. The 'mouth-breathing buffoons' that Jeff Rock so denigrates (and evidently make up most of Twitter's users) may actually like this UI feature. Viewing the world th

Definitely. I think the 'Looking like physical items' thing is just a phase, and will soon look as dated as 'translucent glass beads' and 'embossed cursive font'. 'Flat, simple iconography' is the future, man.

How long would the atmosphere take to recover from CO2 emissions if we stopped burning fossil fuels today? How many people will have died as a result of climate change and lung problems before then?

It's definitely a generalization; it just seems to be a reasonably reliable one :). I suppose the insecurity doesn't have to be about domain knowledge, either - it could be about communication skills. Perhaps some people giving condescendin

I see it this way: The only reason to give condescending feedback is to demonstrate your superiority over the person you're criticizing. If you truly wanted to be helpful, you'd be giving helpful feedback. If you were truly confident in you

Ha, definitely. There seems to be some kind of bacteria neurosis embedded in the baby boomer psyche. I'm always astonished by the bottles of alcohol hand-sanitizer EVERYWHERE. And the hands-free paper towel dispensers. And the automatic flu

I'm a Brit living in California and I've definitely noticed this - in myself and others. At first it's almost shocking, but after a while it seems so much healthier. The odd part is that I've noticed myself feeling suddenly shy and self-con

GUIs prevent truly proficient programming I /hate/ this line of thinking. Do we really think that the perfect way to interact with a computer was somehow stumbled upon in the 1970s and can never be improved upon? The computer does not thi

This is just a reminder of how desperately important good design is. No matter how minimal this effect may turn out to be, we all interact with thousands of man-made objects each day. Improving the quality of those interactions is a cheap w
