Almost no bot responds usefully to 429 that I have seen, and a few respond to it like 500 and 503 to speed up / retry / poll more.

From outside at least, the US administration seems very like a bunch of cruel angry teens lashing out against reality, so various others (eg the bond markets) seem not sure that even if the US administration wants something that it would kn

My home's PV produces more energy than we use in a year, including heating. But the ~1:10 swing in generation from my roof in London UK between mid-winter and mid-summer is tough, and the storage to cover that interseasonally would cu

We shouldn't be dumping pollution selectively in poor places at all. But it is not coincidence: there is a lot of systematic racism (and other discrimination) in the world and in the US on top of that, that keeps not-white (and not &#x

Because it is. Cold marketing drivel without even so much as a 'Show HN' from a relatively new user with previous form. Please cease and desist polluting this place. Scribble on your own home's walls instead.

> "We all think that AI has taken away the need to write." No "we" "all" don't. Some may think that, but those people also may believe in sky fairies and the Earth being flat.

I use high-level tools to automate things all the time, such as scripts to avoid error-prone manual tasks, and high-level languages rather than writing low-level assembly code byte-by-byte ... usually, when they the right things to do. Howe

Virtually nothing pays attention to 429s that I have observed. More things pay attention to 500s and 503s. Some however use those as a trigger to repoll immediately.

You seem to be writing off all HN devs as a homogenous mass and claiming that (a) they think that they will lose their jobs and (b) that that is welcome. Plenty will disagree with one or both of those. Unless you are here to start a fight

I run simple static sites from a (small) off-grid server at home. It has plenty of capacity for normal use, but cannot fully handle the huge traffic overshoots that bots and DoSes and poorly-written systems of household-name-multinationals

FWIW the routers I have owned over the last few years have been 12V @ 1A. I run my router + my RPi server off-grid with ~1kWh of usable (lead-acid) battery capacity. So with those and my laptop's battery, I sailed into our last couple
