And what exactly does that mean? So what if the libraries are all written differently? I hardly see how thats a negative thing. The language is flexible. I was very impressed with c++11 features and I am looking forward to c++14.

Yeah, this is exactly why high performance chips have a microarchitecture that lags client chips. Such bugs would devastate the value of those chips. This will affect haswell Xeon. I bet some serious discussions for delaying that chip are o

Why do you say this? I dont think all side channel attack surfaces require local access to the machine.

Indeed there is something wrong here. I am sure it isn't easy to identify those with scholarly authority. Sad to see that they are missing it. That being said, you are still having scholarly impact! Your talks have taught me to questio

Everyone is interested in maintaining the growth in compute devices diversity and capabilities that Moore's Law has enabled in the past decade. To do that we need to continue to pack more and more transistors on chips. As you pointed o

He is talking about the fundamental problem of VLIW architectures. They rely on the static scheduling of programs to enable instruction level parallelism -- which is critical to performance. Scheduling is an NP Complete problem.

I think all they want to say to advertisers is "we have the most active social platform". They can figure out, given enough time and assuming they have patience, how to effectively monetize the snapchat users.

Probably not. Intel charges a large premium for its crystal-well parts. Here are tray prices: http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/51802/Crystal-Well Im sure they get discounts... but how much can it be?

Traditional DRAM process and cpu process are very different. Building eDRAM into your chip is very expensive, and raises costs significantly.

That is not a good description of the concept of dark silicon. A better description would be, we cannot power all transistors at the same time because there is a power limit with regards to how much power a chip can consume. Just because yo

Well I dont hate them. I actually always admired MS. When I was a kid, Windows 3.1 just amazed me. And I continued to be a fan. But then one day I realized GMail was so much better than hotmail. So much free space! No more deleting! Hotmail

Thats certainly a reason to offer it for a cheaper price. I think once you offer something free -- its hard to go back. I imagine it will tick off customers. So I dont think the incremental nature of OSX is the reason its free.

You kidding right? I hardly think Amazon Prime 2 day shipping an easy problem at scale. Fortune 500 companies outsource this kind of problem to companies like IBM, and they deal with it on smaller scales. This is not an easy problem to sol

A job where I can swing that type of contract and have the onus completely on me to prove my worth sounds perfect. The sad reality is that it seems like in my field of work the dependencies on others is enough to make such a move very risky
