That's a GNU autotools setup, not a pure Makefile setup. A simple Makefile setup is much much easier. A current C project I'm working on has around 150 lines worth of Makefile stuff, and that includes both compiling source, runnin

That's what I'm thinking too. The fact that it's old and running MS-DOS doesn't seem like much of a big deal to me considering it's not networked and only has one job to do that it's already capable of doing. T

Well it's worth keeping in mind that the ringing you hear is coming from the cell-phone tower / service provider / etc. and not the called person's phone anyway whether or not they're on the network. I don't kn

AFAIK Gcc doesn't have a -Weverything equivalent (-Wall and -Wextra are close, but don't enable every warning possible, -Weverything does).

ArchLinux -- It satisfies my needs with the least hassle: I use a very heavily configured i3 setup that's tailored exactly to my needs for school and developing (Full DE's are clumsy and to slow on my cheap laptop), and I need rec

Honestly, I've had better luck installing Ubuntu or Mint then I ever have with Windows. Assuming that a Linux driver exists, the only case I've ever seen a driver not get used automatically is with proprietary drivers. Even then,

As an adult with ADHD, I can agree. It's definitely real, and it's definitely not just something that can be easily ignored without proper education about it (And without proper medication if necessary). Personally, I was lucky, a

Have you considered i3? It supports fully floating windows separate from the tiling, and normal pop-up windows go straight to the floating layer. It's extremely handy (As what you noted annoys me a ton with WM's like XMonad). i3 c

I agree on a lot of the points. I think a key here is that I don't really think anybody knows what to teach people when they do teach them, and your beginning example shows it extremely clearly. You, having almost zero knowledge of OSX
