Thanks! We're working hard -- I just added that animation this morning and I have a few more to do. I like your perspective on tackling the biggest problem. We can show a lot more of how users have been doing automation for firmware, d

I think a compiler for PCBs is a great idea! Are you fully open source today? How has the community aspect been going?

Curious to hear your take. Sutton seems to present AI as worthy successors to humanity. What do you think he is saying?

After watching the video, I agree with that summarization of Rich's arguments. Building AI so humanity can go gently into that good night seemed very much the theme of that talk. What is your take on it?

The article doesn't go into much detail on this, but the UV source using the hydrogen here is incredibly cool. To get the 13.5nm light they need, they use a 20kW CO2 laser to explode tin droplets into plasma that emits the correct wave

Hey, founder here - we really value feedback from HN and I try to cut out all of the commercial aspects and just write something interesting. Do you have some feedback about what we could change about this article to make it less like a com

The interesting thing about scripting layout is how quickly you need an autorouter. There's usually plenty of room, but if things aren't laid out extremely regularly with no variation, it rare to be able to just write out the corr

Each LED has a different response for how much light you get out based on how much current goes in. To get the same brightness you have to compensate for that. (Default behavior is one super dim LED, and one that is like staring at the sun.

That's a cool idea. Can confirm that this brightness is good if you need to check cable quality in full outdoor sun.

I think they're a bit off on the noise explanation, as they invoke a common misunderstanding of differential pairs on circuit boards (free common mode rejection). You're right that differential signals work much better at high spe

To expand - the way most relevant noise propagates on a board is often assumed to couple equally into both sides of the differential pair. It doesn't.

I like this book a lot. Has a heavy focus on physics and an intuitive understanding of physics, rather than just giving a list of heuristics to abide by.

From the article: > any interference affects the [diff pair] signals equally – as signals are compared to each other to receive information, this means that the information received is not affected by noise overlaid onto both of the sign

It's similar to VHDL in that Synposys came out with Design Compiler in the 80s, and people switched from drawing schematics to writing code to design electronics. From a language perspective it's quite different. VHDL has super-li

Code generation is a good analogy - nice high-level code in, CAD design out. The 'sugaring' is implemented in a macro system that generates an Intermediate representation we designed for electrical systems (kinda like LLVM for har

You're right - reference designs should be parametric. Everybody wants this including the semiconductor companies. Seems like the failure in the tools is that parametric generation is really badly supported by the usual graphics-orient
