Yeah. The author is way off here. Another way you can quickly find big offenders is by using an infrared camera. I found various things in my house that are putting off a ton of heat when doing nothing (and using electricity to do it). My 1

The real answer is three years of law school plus a couple of years of work in the relevant field. If you want a taste of what it involves, for patent law, here is one of the seminal cases on how to construe claim terms, Phillips v. AWH Cor

I was actually a bit disappointed in the article. I thought it was going to explain some kind of substantive work or task that the author can do on Linux but not Mac OS. Instead, the things he lists all boil down to Mac OS being a lot less

Which is great, unless the “fees” include taxes. In which case the short version of this comment is “you can use it for tax evasion.”

Parents can just watch the movies themselves and figure out whether their individual kids can handle watching it. That's what we do. It works great. I know our kids and what they can handle. Some PG-13 movies are fine for our 5-6 yr ol

It actually works fine in a pseudo-historical setting IMO. You just need to replace the space magic with regular magic.

I follow Andrew Sullivan generally, and read this article yesterday. Even so, I completely agree this has no place here.

It's not defeatist. As I said, I just don't think, even in the optimal scenario, that it is a goal worth achieving. Personally I'd rather software developers focus their time on more worthwhile features.

I disagree. I thought the article's title was misleading. It was Justice Thomas's name that uncovered the bug, if anything. Justice Thomas himself had nothing to do with it other than his name.

Yes, you could add support for it. To what end? Do you think the usage will be high enough to justify the effort to implement and maintain it? Even imagining the ideal world where every to-do app implements this, portability of to-do items

I'm not sure this is the best tool for an import-export format, as it is unable to capture all of the data available in some to do apps. I could see it being OK as a sort-of data backup format. But it's missing a lot of data that

I don't particularly like the Apple Studio Display, but this post is wrong on the ergonomics. Generally the top of your monitor should sit at or just below eye level.

I use a 30" 4K monitor, and I still don't notice the DPI difference between it and my MacBook Pro or iPad. Personally I would much rather that they made the display 4K and 120hz instead of 5k and 60hz. At that size, I don't s

I am conflicted on this. The spec is nice. I love the recognition that dates may be imprecise (e.g., 2022-05 -- although I would count that as the last day of the period, 23:59:59 on 2022-05-31, rather than the first day of the next period

For me the problem is that you often can't even tell if you are really on 5G. Some carriers label certain types of 4G as 5G, and my understanding is that even if you have "real" 5G, it probably isn't mmWave 5G in most

Yeah, Render is great. I’ve run a company blog on a Django/Wagtail setup there for almost 2 years now with very few hiccups. I do sometimes worry that one day they’ll shut down and I’ll be stuck moving to a crappier service…

Absolutely. I lived in a basement apartment for a couple of years right after college and it was great. It was inexpensive, it met my needs, and it allowed me to save a lot of money for the next stage of my life.

"It's about the kids" is really "it's about the hassle for adults of dealing with kids' schedules when they are 1 hour earlier." But there is nothing wrong with that in my view.

It's easy to focus on abductions and forget all of the other relevant crime, which makes up the majority of it. Yes abductions are low, but in many many areas crime as a whole is high, and children are often involved or impacted, and l

There is a big difference between doing it for a few weeks and doing it for most or all of the school year (depending on location and schedule).
