Not sure where you grew up, but PS2 piracy was rampant and easily accessible. It probably had more to do with local copyright laws than anything technical. As far as anti-piracy measures go, the PS3 is where Sony upped their game AFAIK.

No, it’s that the average person cannot make decisions about complex subjects . This is not a new development: the boundaries of scientific knowledge - across all fields - have required a large amount of specialization for a while now. The

I suppose you’d be sad to learn that virtually all of the top paying tech companies have generous parental leave policies. If you want a more extreme case, I hear Netflix gives up to 12 months of leave - and employees commonly take the full

It is definitely a fun learning exercise, but also quite addictive and grueling (yes, a contradiction)! I wrote a Gameboy Color emulator[1] earlier this year, but stopped as soon as I realized that I wasn't learning anything new. As a

Fair enough. I definitely simplified things a bit, but you can educate people on how to conduct themselves over the long term through various mechanisms. Many countries used this approach effectively to solve actual societal issues; however

Okay, let’s work with that. Do you also apply that logic to Sikh turbans ( dastar )? In other words, do you believe that forbidding Sikhs from covering their hair is not religious persecution? How do you think Sikhs would react to that? Ed

An inadvertent bug in the compiler can be modeled as a compromise. So, as before, it depends on how you define “safe” in your model. In the case of Rust, the compiler is safe and is considered to be within the safety boundary. Will the Rust
