It’s a better metric because GDP gives some insight in the potential income of a country. Although it must be coupled with current tax % to be really useful. Debt usually has monthly or yearly payments, GDP refers to yearly income. In that

How is the comparison to GDP relevant? GDP is the amount of good and services a country produced in a year expressed in some currency. An endowment is an amount of money? Totally different things I would say? But I have seen this type of ph

I think this is a great model, only downside is that you still have to live close to the office which in my opinion is less of a problem in Europe than it is in the US.

I’ve worked with some consultants that were ‘senior’ after 2-3 years of experience. I think there are two reasons for this trend: giving some a senior title can sometimes mean you have to pay them less (paradoxically perhaps) because they f

Yes.. but FreeBSD is used by a lot of people! It’s used on a lot of servers. Netflix’ CDN for example runs FreeBSD.

Did you ever build HTTP based APIs in Java (or C#), what makes you prefer Go? I have been using Java for a long time but will soon be using Go because of a job change and I am trying to get a better sense of the trade-offs and advantages.

What were you using before Go? I notice in the relies that a lot of people are coming from Python. Did you consider using Java? And if so what made you use Go in the end?

Can I ask about the choice to not use any libraries? As in your go.mod file is empty? I understand the desire to keep dependencies to a minimum but surely there are use cases where it is better to import existing code rather than writing so

I used to be of the same opinion but after writing a lot of Go web services I don’t agree anymore. Go’s HTTP interface is a bit weird and while I am sure there is a reason for all the strange choices, for average non-performance critical co

I think Java gets a lot of flak because it is so popular within enterprises. And we all know what kind of code gets written in non-IT corporates. Add to that the fact that Java allows you to do a lot means a lot of crazy code was conjured u

Anyone have any recommendations for a SQL engine that works on in-memory data and has a simple/monolithic architecture? Our data is about 50-100gb (uncompressed) and thus easily fits into memory. I am sure we could do our processing us

Yes but how expensive? The color range in technical diagrams is extremely small ( I would say less than 10 colors, never? gradients). How much extra would it cost to print $5? On a $50 book I would argue the increase is negligible while the
