Ironically Google changing how it responds to my search queries, and me finally figuring out that's why my google experience has degraded, is what actually made me switch to DDG as my primary search engine.

I'll take the hit and say it's bad. A great purpose of nation states is to enrich and protect the lives of those who are from those respective nations, often and usually at the cost of others. A bunch of non-governmental entities

Did SETI@home accomplish anything useful with its 21 years of computing? Outside of the general "it's always good to do science, even with negative results" which I agree with. I ran a large cluster of university machines sur

Disturbing? I don't think so. I subscribe to the_donald because I want to keep up with what the nutters are saying. Yesterday I reported a post where they had photshopped out the dots in the " i "s in all of Mike Bloomberg&#x

Why do we need to try to streamline C++ here? What's behind the urge to "cut out the fat"? Would doing this make C++ an even better performing language? What's the upside of gutting the language? I don't understand

Well, there's one pre-print paper that goes as far as saying that because some segments of the RNA resemble, closely, parts of HIV, that those may have been inserted by human efforts. Of course, there's been a lot of pushback to t

I think that the bicameral mind hypothesis makes sense. Oh, and the phenomena wherein the disconnection of the hemispheres of the brain results in strange cognitive artifacts such as being able to give two different answers to one question,
