Network interfaces should not rename themselves after reboots. On Red Hat derived distributions, the device name is tied to the MAC address of the interface, so it never changes. On other distributions, "udev" accomplishes the same thing. T

I abandoned Linux on the desktop five years ago, and I still occasionally hear some snide remarks about "defection". Even though I still manage a bunch of Linux servers and advocate towards Linux whenever it makes sense.

Powershell is a good scripting environment, but is a lousy interactive shell. And is is exactly _because_ it pipes objects instead of text. When plain text is being passed around, one can build a pipe incrementally and immediately see what

I do not think I'm entitled to more that you are willing to give for free. However, I'm entitled to suspect your software may include malware, spyware and/or adware and thus choose not to use it. It has nothing to do with releasing the sour

So, you release software for free but do not provide sources for fear of being ripped off. I understand the reasoning, but I must say your fears are unfounded. The thousands of open source applications out there are the proof of that. There

Even after innumberable discussions about this subject, I still don't get why people are so afraid of NAT. The main concern seems to be about ISPs starting to NAT everybody and their dog. Well, guess what, they just can't do that. For start

It seems like a sound principle, in theory, to trade memory by programmer time. After all, one can buy a lot of RAM for the cost of a programmer's work day (even the expensive ECC RAM used on servers). However, most people don't seem to be

Being digital doesn't mean using solid state storage. Magnetic tape is probably still the most used medium for digital video cameras. For example, Betacam SX is still used.

You forgot the piece that SVN integrates with IDEs. This is it, case closed. Like I said, in most cases you are trying to convince developers that don't want to use any kind of version control. They want IDE integration, they won't use bran
