I wonder if there is just about anything (other than water) that you can put in your body that wouldn't have some effect on the mutation rate of some particular cells in your body.

I see. I wasn't aware of the MAOIs in tobacco. Though I wasn't able to find a good source on how much they might contribute to the addiction (lots of questions about it around the web though). Do you happen to know of credible sou

Yeah, Kratom definitely has a lot of potential to do a lot of good for opiate addicts. I disagree with the analogy to e-cigs though. With e-cigs you can put a much stronger concentration of nicotine in each hit depending on the liquid used.

Yeah it's definitely not the same with different drugs. The urges triggered by smell of cigarette smoke, I personally feel is more a mental thing, ie. the power of suggestion. It's separate from the physical dependence. Vaping may

I think along the same lines as you, but I'm not so sure about users being able to successfully self-taper with legalization. Lots of people with oxycodone or similar perscriptions find it almost impossible to meaningfully self taper.

I also think it's fine as long as they clearly communicate to the user that their search queries will be transmitted to a server not controlled by OWS.

I think it would be acceptable if these types of things were on by default, and have the option to disable it or opt-out.

Seems like writing is sufficiently easy using different colored laser pulses, but the article doesn't mention how feasible it is to actually read the data once it's been stored.

I'm not sure how the centralization improves the resilience of the implementations. Mining pool centralization is definitely a big downside for security on the blockchain. A lot of research is being done in cryptocurrencies looking for

Unless I am uninformed, I don't think it's the case that any of these IoT devices come with malware preinstalled. They are just vulnerable because of weak default identical passwords. The fear is about these devices being exploite

I wouldn't be so sure. Personally, I think trailer trucks will be the first things that go driverless. Sure, we may be 10 years away still, but that's not very long. There will likely be just as many (or more) truckers in 10 years

Sounds a little paranoid to me. These insecure devices are just being pushed out into the wild. It doesn't matter if they are imported into the US. They can be used to attack Chinese infrastructure just as easily.

They don't need them, except for financial gain. They make money off their patents just like the parent said, by licensing them, selling them, etc.

Sure, assuming that we find life that is significantly different than life on Earth. If all we find is microbial life that is genetically similar to that on Earth, then you might be inclined to believe we brought it there, but it seems poss

Some states do already have strict voter ID laws. I think Georgia is one of them. As they currently stand, they've been shown to disproportionally affect black and latino voters. There is nothing stopping any of these states from passi

I think this would be better if you could look only at the rate of other users upvoting other new, recently submitted stories, and submit based on that, rather than overall activity.

I may be wrong, but I think a lot of people would argue there is no such thing as the "fast" lane. Just a regular lane, and a "slow" lane.

One thing I wonder about is if we go to Mars and find microbial life at some later point. Will we ever be able to be sure that the microbes were there before us, or did we bring them with us without realizing, after which they reproduced un

I don't know much about microbiology, but I'm not sure that there will definitely be a huge difference between microbes on Earth and microbes on Mars. It could very well be that life was delivered to Earth from Mars at some point
