I would be interested in learning about any algorithm capable of grading an essay. Typos and vocabulary use should only account for a small portion of the grade in my opinion. To me, an essay should be graded based on whether or not it acco

I also recommend this book. I started reading it, figuring I would probably only read the beginning or gloss over it. It was so well written and so interesting that I ended up reading the whole textbook.

I understand that pages can change their state without user interaction, but shouldn't the browser only write to disk when that actually happens? The browser has to be able to detect when these changes happen right? I understand that i

Maybe it's just me, but I kind of find this a bit creepy. It seems to me that it would be similar if the phone companies allowed you to listen to someone calling you while it was still ringing for them. Maybe it's not quite what I

I think the point is that while it may be worth $33 million, it would take much, much more than that to get it safely back to Earth. Also, the price of platinum is currently driven by the knowledge that it's naturally scarce and the li

Think about 50 years from now, when we are expected to have a few more billion people living here on Earth. If you think things are stretched to their limit now, just wait. It may be that the only way to save Earth is to give some of the 10

Teller may believe that the system and our leaders are just a reflection of us as a society? After all, it's society as a whole that allowed the system and our leaders to be put into power in the first place.

Why not worry about what goes to the browser? In my eyes, what actually runs in the browser is the only thing that matters in the end. You could still write in something like Jade, transpiler, minify, then strip unneeded tags, all with auto

This is precisely the reason presidents wait until the end of both terms before making any pardons. It's possible (however unlikely) that Obama, deep down, doesn't actually condemn him as much as he has let on publicly. Regardless

Right, mining pools are an issue. If the hash power isn't sufficiently distributed then your guarantees go away. That is why some people are doing research in that area to discourage or eliminate mining pools. I read about most of this

I agree, that is why another area of interest is figuring out a way to discourage or eliminate mining pools. Both this and bootstrapping are discussed at length in this free book from Princeton: https://freedom-to-tinker.com/

Right, I agree. The theory is sound though. Theoretically, there could be a quantum computing breakthrough (however unlikely) which would break some traditional crypto which was previously deemed impossible. It is the same with blockchains.

I agree that currently it may not be the same as brute forcing something like an AES-GCM, but that isn't my point. My point is just that, if you have a blockchain with sufficiently high (and distributed) hash power (relative to the amo

The 51% attack is a big flaw with blockchains, but it goes away when the network becomes sufficiently large, with enough hash power distributed to different actors. If you can trust that it would be near impossible for a single actor (or gr
