libC is an extremely leaky abstraction. Programming to it assumes you have a runtime that supports constructor functions, POSIX errno and locale, a global heap allocator singleton, and more. The design space of _Hello World_ is massively co

It's vitally important to know the perspective from which somebody evaluates the gender wage gap when I'm reading their complaints about Node.

The popularity of two similarly named Rust projects, Ruff and Ruffle, seems mildly unfortunate.

Clangd consumes the compilation database, it doesn't produce it. Clang is what does that.

Clang itself can do it, as can forks of Clang, so can Xmake, Meson, and Ninja, as well as Clang Power Tools for Visual Studio.

I don't like bear. If you want to update the compilation database with it, you have to do a clean build. Most build systems can generate the database without a clean build, and most compilers can generate it, so I don't see much u

I still get ads for obviously awful products at the start of some videos. Neither YouTube Premium nor adblocks can stop a creator from telling me about the latest monthly razor subscription for me to buy.

Optimistically, the explicit coroutine allocation proposal and the Clang-IR project should both make the situation a lot better in the future.

Rust doesn't have taint, and C++ does, making C++ the better option for any secure system with user-input.

XMake is by far the best option. There is nothing even close in feature completeness, nor in user friendliness.

Deducing this is not a feature analogous to anything in Rust, the language with almost no type deduction at all. It bears a vague similarity to constrained generic traits, but you really have to squint to see it.

I've never heard of unity builds including everything together. I'm not aware of a build system which even does that by default. If you enable unity in CMake, it groups batches of 5 files together by default, and the documentati

Other languages need tooling and featurefulness that is overall on par with C++ first. So far no low level language has profilers and debuggers that are as good, none have nearly as many compiler hints, and most are far harder to write zero

Sadly rr cannot work on software that makes any kind of call to GPUs, so its usefulness is pretty limited on a lot of larger software. But when it's usable, imo it's amazing.
