Very impressive, and very good explanations! I just wish I could remember everything ;)

There seems to be a small bug, when I try to search for an author with a german umlaut in the name (for example "Kühn Eva") I get an error ("UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xfc' in position 9: ordinal not in rang

And what performance do you get from running Redis without any virtualization directly on the host system?

Some of these questions I include in my exams for "network technology" classes (at least the easier ones: what's the class D network, what's bootp, ..) - and maybe I can find some more. Thank's for sharing.

As a side note: it doesn't work with the "Reader" feature of Safari - the background of these images is always white (with a small dark bullet on the bottom right).

I can't remember exactly, but the whole upgrade process (including backup) needed somewhere between half an hour and an hour (on my 3G).

That was also the case with the GM release, so this may be normal.

What's the difference between Airbnb and Couch Surfing? You have to pay for Airbnb but do get a bed? I do like the idea of Airbnb and hope to be able to try it soon.

The looks pretty good, especially that Interface Builder is now included in Xcode, and that it also supports Git for version control. Hopefully it will reach a stable state soon.

I think it is to big to mount it on a Bugatti Veyron, but it would be nice (would the resulting Vortex Ring be faster by the speed of the car, or would the car drive into the ring, if it is fast enough?).

I think he used p_rite so that the variable names length is identical to p_read, which can make the code look more pretty.

Where the latency of the (integer) multiplication is 3 clock cycles, of (integer) addition is 1 clock cycle and of (integer) shift it is also 1 clock cycle (according to the Intel® 64 and IA-32 Architectures Optimization Reference Manual [1

Which is a good thing (tm). I think I'll have to take a look at state-of-the-art implementations of shifters and multipliers. Does anybody know of some resources regarding this topic (papers or reasonably optimized VHDL code)?

That is pretty interesting, how can a shift operation be slower than a multiplication?

I've read this book some time ago, it's definitely a must-read, however I'm not sure how valid the assembler-tuning tips are on current processors. Somebody should write a new edition of this book which takes account of multithreading optim

That's great news. For teaching programming classes a good code editor (with git functionality included!) and a (ssh) terminal - both with VGA/DVI output (for projection) would be great - currently I still have to use my MacBook Pro for eve

An additional idea would be a (small? popup?) google earth view where you can click on the locations instead of entering them in the textfields.

That's great! Your are absolutely correct, most sites seem to originate in pre-2000. Just two additional ideas: For the problem you specified I did find a interface which gives you a day view of both destinations with the corresponding time

I'm currently reading "How to write a lot" from Paul J. Silvia, where he is saying that you shouldn't try to find time for writing, but you should allocate time for writing and start doing it. This is very similar to this Tip #1, take your
