This is an important development but HN may not be the best place to discuss/analyze it?

You can look at die attach[1] which basically solders to pads on the circuit board (no magnet wires required :-)). [1] "Die Attach Comes to PCBs" --- https://www.eeweb.com/die-attach-comes-to-pcbs/

Yes, the entire chip (wiring and transistors) is flexible. Which is something I find kind of amazing. Back in 2008 there was a company in the UK called 'Plastic Logic'[1] that was going to make an e-reader that could be rolled up.

Some questions you might consider which would help you to think of some use cases; 1) How would wiring to you processor work? 2) How many flexible compute applications are currently using just really small processors? 3) Given that Pragmati

On the plus side, this is the kind of stuff you could screen pretty easily with large model machine learning. Not that there is a business in identifying scientific fraud, doing that with fraudulent government documents would probably have

This came across on Mastodon and I found it both hilarious and fun. While the subject might be somewhat unserious, the categorization techniques and process are excellent!

To use your metaphor, let's say you baked a batch of cookies and put them on the street with "free to take", and then later when you noticed they were all gone and went to your local coffee shop, in their case it had "fr

People are a blend of attitudes with regard to this. You will encounter many people who are incensed that the software they wrote and gave away for free is being sold as part of a product and making someone else lots of money. You will find

The key difference is that holiday decorations aren't as fungible as $100 bills. People can (and do) steal stuff out of peoples yards (and packages on their porches) and then resell that stuff for cash. The reality is that people with

My thoughts were posted in Mastodon: https://chaos.social/@ChuckMcManis/112429390169387783 but the TL;DR is that writing code adds value, and that value will be realized by people who take it for free, even if you don&

At the moment it is in my office monitoring a temperature readout that is hosted by a web server and then turning on the ceiling fan if it gets > 80F and turns it off again if the temperature drops below 75F.

Pretty classic enshittification. I expect one response might end up being 'contract' developers who sign a contract of 3 years to develop an application and then after three years they go out and find a new contract. I reason to t

In the paper they were measuring signal gain between two antennas, and as such the 6dBm gain appears to be the effect of collating more of the beam spread into the receiver (as one would expect of a lens). Given my schedule I don't thi

Based on the literature the measure would be 6dBi (relative to isotropic). This is often referred to as 'gain' as it represents sensitivity to the band of interest at a given angle of arrival.

Awesome. That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking of doing. My thought was that you could more easily weatherize something like this rather than a parabolic dish which has a lot of wind loading. What filament did you use?

I like this article, it asks an interesting question (albeit I think it is the wrong question but still it is an interesting one) about how accurately linear systems can be approximated by discrete systems. If you get into digital signal pr
