Y'all would really like https://www.gathering4gardner.org/ :-) I tend to like lcamtuf's Electronics entries a bit better (I'm an EE after all) but I find he has a great way of explaining things.

Click stream is useful, without a doubt. It isn't essential. We had already started the process at Blekko of moving to alternate ways for ranking the index. That said, if you run the frontend as proposed, you get to collect the click

Every AI chatbot to date suffers from the "Film expert" effect. That is when a script writer presents data from an "expert" in a movie or show to the audience in response to some information need on the part of the other

I would be you $1 that in five to ten years there will be zero "AI" players replacing search. But that's a different topic than this one.

At Blekko we advocated for this as well. Google has two interlocked monopolies, one is the search index and the other is their advertising service. We often joked that if Google reasonable and non-discriminatory priced access to their index

Yay? I'm not sure what I'm missing here. In startup parlance this feels more like a feature than a product (like maybe a division of Lockheed or Boeing).

Congrats John. Of all the roles in a company for a technical person I find member of the board to be the most complex.

This will be fun to watch. Thermal vision gear that is 'cheap' is in high demand, so there is a ready market for that if they can get it in production quantities.

End the end I gave up :-) The problem I was trying to solve was a physics based deformable environment. Something like minecraft but without the blockyness. Basically allowing one to dig as deep as one wanted into the planet, build as high

Yes! There was a great Graphics Gems article on implementing quad trees. The things that change are the sheer number of things you might have in your environment.

Exactly correct. In reading some highly regarded works two things occurred to me, first that the author had captured into words some fundamental aspect of the human condition. Second was that it's easier to think about something presen

This is perhaps what amazes me the most. We're each a Borg, we are a collective that has adapted the biological distinctiveness of bacteria that we've assimilated into a collective that "thinks." Pretty wild. That we gat

That's pretty clever. In my 3D experiments I always struggled with minimizing the number of objects in the world I had to consider for rendering on each frame based on the view/fog(range). This seems like it would help with that.

This article and the comments here are kind of scary. It feels like Google's only supporting apps that "drive engagement". That sounds like they want to force developers into producing stuff they can show ads in because they

This and the Cult of Mac book completely describe it. Leaders are people who can have emotional damage that they compensate for in their business decisions. It is "easy" to understand why parents would lie to home invasion robbers

This feels symptomatic of Google getting more and more desperate to have Youtube generate net revenue. All of the changes pointed out (and all of the 'shorts' that litter the site) are explained as 'additional monetization.&#
