I was doing some travelling back in 2002 or so, and spent several weeks in Naples. I was shocked at how inexpensive wine was, at around 2 euro per bottle (at the time, the euro and the dollar were very close). Then I learned that the cork c

Personally, I hate the hurdle of the .txt only, or pasted in resume. I put a lot of effort into the layout and style of my resume, and wrote it in TeX. My knee-jerk response when people won't glance at my .pdf resume is that they are lazy,

To be fair, swallowing magnets (multiple) is far more of a health risk than other small things babies tend to swallow (coins and detritus). I believe this is because the can stick together in a way that causes intestinal blockage makes hole

I've tried a lot of weather apps, and my favorite, by far, is eWeatherHD. It does just what you're asking - with a last 24 hour trace of temp and barometric pressure. It will also show you the next 12 hours of temp, what temp it feels like,

Thanks Carter. I'm actually not local yet - finishing up in Ithaca for a few more weeks. It would be great to find a time for coffee.

Neither. I'm an experimentalist. It appears to me at this point that if I were computational or a simulationist, the transition would be a bit easier. Some of my difficulty comes from the fact that I'm limiting my search to the greater NYC

As a physics PhD with two postdocs, this highlights almost perfectly my decision to leave for industry. When I defended the plan was to become faculty, but my first postdoc made it clear to me that goal was never going to make me happy, or

A normal yoga class, I agree. I get the impression this is an employer sponsored class that takes place during the work day. Lots of job related things can pop up, and to assume that cell phone use in class was trivial is an odd assumption

Thanks for that. I had no idea the Fire lacked a hard volume button. I almost compulsively use the one on my iPad, as I find quantified increments far easier than sliding my fat finger over something my fat finger is blocking.

Is this a Kindle killer? I have the original iPad (twas free!), which I've really loved, but the cost is significant compared to the newer 7" tablets. I use the 3g a ton, but suppose I could fix that with a personal cellular wifi solution.

I think it's very different to give someone a weekend to do an edit test and story sample, than to demand code whilst looking over the applicant's shoulder. One is much like how normal work is done, and the other adds unnecessary stress and

Agreed. I used to take a lot of macro shots of flowers as I traveled and did a lot of hiking in varying ecosystems. Playing with focal depth and framing was a great pleasure, and my shots were frequently something I was really proud of. The

Two initial reactions: 1) with the current state of iTunes and Amazon downloads, it seems easier, safer, more legal, and more supportive to buy songs, instead of relying on P2P. You can't claim to be a music lover with 15 GB of free music,

Can't one be cool without being concerned about appearance? I think coolness is about how one responds to situations, esp those unexpected. Think about how people talk to gate agents when their flight gets cancelled. Those that are reasonab

Slightly pedantic, but this question was not a Fermi problem - Fermi problems are numerical approximation problems, and this one is more behavioral. That said, I don't think they're lazy questions necessarily. However, I'm a physicist, enjo

I meant to say, that even when I get 1100 points in a game, it doesn't show in my player stats that I won the game. I suspect this is because it was a tie.

Really enjoying the game, but the leaderboards seem to be who has played the most games/put in the most time. An average would be better, I think.

Interesting article, that I look forward to finishing. Just wanted to point out that the link goes to page 2 (of 3) - I was confused at the jump in until I got to the end of the page and realized it was because I started in the middle.
