Gods I miss the days when I got so excited for a Windows release. Now it's nothing but a constant stream of "fuck you-s" from Microsoft. I'd give anything to see a Windows install screen and smile again.

Xbox Live Gold. I'd call, give them my account details, and the rep would tell me it was canceled. Three months later, another bill. Called my bank and had my card replaced, three months later somehow again another bill on my new card.

I spent half a year being charged monthly by Microsoft because Google considers my email address the same whether or not it has a period in it but Microsoft had somehow split my account into two based on that difference.

This is a good point. There are several other metrics by which larger-massed animals are more efficient than smaller ones, such as oxygen usage per kg of body mass. Perhaps a similar effect is applicable to brains?

Oh I'm not saying we will. I'm just saying that even taking the claimed effect at face value, it only has significance if it can hurt our genetic intelligence faster than engineering can improve it.

Like most looming disasters, whether or not this is a real problem depends on quantifying the problem. Is this likely to significantly affect the population intelligence before we learn to engineer our children, say within the next 200 year

So when you're mousing you hover your thumb over the pad? That's not tiring?

I just don't understand how everyone but me seems to just be okay with not knowing where left click stops and right click starts. They're just fine with having the pointer jiggle around whenever they click because their thumb does

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I was trying to make the point it's not as surprising as it first seems that these edge cases become well known. Cases regarding the right not to divulge your passwords involving someone ac

I'm curious what the mechanism is for it being more dangerous for a 25 year old than a 35 year old. What about the ostensibly healthier person's body is different?

Controversy naturally adheres to these edge cases. If Rittenhouse wasn't a law breaking idiot, there'd be no story. Similarly, if his actions weren't in self defense, there would also be much less story. Because you have some

Deceiving the user into thinking it's a tool for them while actually being a way to manipulate them. For Google that's extraordinarily on-brand.

I am still miffed about Skylake being out of support for Windows 11. Is there a particular feature you find desirable enough to make up for the hot garbage that is the rest of Windows 11?

More likely it's just because cycles existed before the safety regulations and there would be too much backlash to banning them. Plenty of other things that only harm yourself, like drugs or unpasteurized milk are also illegal.

It's rather astonishing that all the safety regulations for cars manage to exist in the same legal system that allows motorcycles on public roads at all. Last I read the death risk ratio was about 24x.
