Wait, I thought we were talking about kindness after they pulled the plug and backtracked on everything. How am I being taken advantage of if I read that letter and think "Well, good for them to finally realize things and take the righ

Fair enough, thanks for clarifying. Now, when you say that you read their comment that way... did you truly read it that way? Do you actually believe that brown9-2's position is that everything that is said in marketing messages is tru

What's the penalty for looking too kindly at somebody in this context?

What exactly is true? That remote working is always better in all conceivable scenarios and that anyone saying anything else is stupid and wasteful and probably smells too?

This seems weirdly combative and aggressive. The original question was "I don't know why people think Slack is a remote working tool" so I'd say a legitimate answer would be "Well they say so themselves in their mar

Effort, time, unlearning workflows and re-learning them in Firefox, etc. Switching costs would probably have been a better term to use.

Are you including the change cost here, which will be many times higher for most of the population vs. HN? Even if I thought that Firefox was a better choice, I'd recommend to my friends and family to keep using whatever they are using

What was the "other side" of leftpad? As far as I remember, the broken system wrought havoc, not the developer who chose to withdraw his modules. I don't think the developer's reasons are much relevant when discussing ho

In what world is this human interest piece an attack on Elon Musk? Is any non-fawning coverage a hit piece?

Yeah, what a weird "solution" to be okay with. Wonder if they'd be as okay with repeating a workday because their hours weren't logged due to a system error.

Everyone can look at a pen stroke and identify the color. Can you say the same about a photo and identifying the file format?

If it doesn't matter if you miss a hire or not, why would you be going through the effort of buying a large fancy salmon and shipping it to the candidate? You could just not do that and not care about the ones you miss since they don&#

If all publishers, persons and organizations are censoring everyone who is not allowed to use their platform/property to express whatever they want... then it seems to dilute the meaning of censorship into nothingness.

Where are you drawing that line, I'm really curious. Can you put me live on Zoom in your house so I can talk about things I like? If not, are you participating in censorship?

I dont know, I'd say the front line of the battle is things like transgender persons having 9x the suicide rate of the general population. Is that a war that looks won to you?

To be fair, the app was released at the tail end of the infection curve so there wasn't much pandemic to affect anymore. Could be useless, but I don't think this was a good test to generalize with.

Iceland has done quite fine through this with contact tracing as one of the main tools in the toolbox. I think a blanket statement of "not needed" needs something more behind it.
