I think I found school tolerable, or even fun, because I was able to figure out the proper way to exercise agency within the confines of the system. As an analogy, as a kid when I played with Lego or K'NEX, my favorite thing to do was

I was accumulating deltas in a pde simulation on photographic images and when the calculation was tiled, different tiles had noticeable difference in brightness. Real image data, roughly 1 megapixel per tile at that time, and 32-bit floats.

Obviously the 3D sculpting of the Dactyl Manuform can be better than a 2D layout, but the distinction I find in the Mitosis layout is the fact that the main thumb keys are two-tiered, letting me use one thumb to hit both shift and the numbe

I'm always saddened by how few thumb keys many of these ergo boards have in comparison to the Mitosis layout, which lets me entirely avoid having anything but the most basic momentary layers, with no tap-dancing, latching, long-press-d

I personally think it's most healthy to develop open-source software when you are the target user. This way incentives align so that there's more intrinsic motivation to work on the software.

I read much more book content in Japanese, a language I've been learning the past ten years, than English. It helps that I can finish an English novel in a single day while I can pace myself in a foreign language. I simply cannot stop

I recently replaced my fridge because it was unbearably loud for me. The noise was pretty much the primary source of stress in my life, no exaggeration. Perhaps it was on its way out anyway, but my new one is deathly silent, just the way I

Are there any half-decent ways to run CI locally? Anyone have any suggestions? For me it doesn't have to be automatic like these CI services.

I like Computer Modern, but mainly on print or on high DPI displays. It looks pretty terrible on low pixel density displays because of how thin it is.

This reminds me of how I learned photography, on a two-week feedback loop with film. By being forced to evaluate a whole roll at once, I was able to get feedback about systemic errors I was making, rather than losing the forest for the tree

Are you thinking of the new viscous liquid monopropellants that replace hydrazine monopropellant, rather than hypergols? Hypergols are always highly reactive, by very nature of being hypergolic.

Extra small boards, I contend, do not help for QWERTY because the layout inherently makes you reach all the time. I use a 46-key Mitosis (non-split custom version) with Dvorak and greatly enjoy how little I need to reach with my fingers.

Which keyboard is that? I find that my Mitosis, which has tons of thumb selection, really alleviates the load on my fingers because the chords only ever involve two digits per hand at the very most. Also I use Dvorak so my fingers move exce
