It may not be following the optimal path, but it is absolutely within the planned contingencies: " Falcon 9 is designed to handle an engine out situation and still complete its mission. "

Heh, no aerospace background for me, merely computer engineering. Maybe that's still close enough for the term to have crept around with that meaning. Now go forth and help spread this usage far and wide! ;)

The same kernel could be installed on different devices, yes, provided the necessary drivers for all of those devices were part of that kernel build. You still have some platform specifics in userspace though, like build.prop and all the H

Did you try to do this locally? The article explains that the "p" is picked up from window.location, assuming it's http or https. If you're using "file://...", that third character index is 'e' instead.

You can protect against SQL injection, but you can't make anyone read the article. The best you could do is make them click the link first. Just like you can't make anyone read a EULA before clicking "I agree". You can force them to scr

I like the way the C++ FAQ explains the problems of "is a" inheritance, especially the examples of Circle-is-an-Ellipse. http://www.parashift.com/c++-faq-lite/proper-inheritance.htm...

I'm tempted to stuff tarballs in there for my pre-built release binaries, especially since I could give it a gpg signature in the tag. I wouldn't do this for large projects, but the case I have in mind is a tiny utility, ~25KB. Does anyone

But the key is that they are your asshole customers . It's one thing to say, "this app is not for me unless it has feature X." Or, "I just bought your app, but it kills me that I can't do X." It's entirely different to go pirate and use

I find it odd that the test's adaptation removes the first two words from "standard creepiness rule: don't date under (age/2+7)". Is it objectionable to refer to dating with large gaps of age as creepy?

It does affect files, but umask only subtracts permission bits. So if the program creating the file doesn't try to set it executable, then umask will never change that.

I agree that this is easiest, and I'm surprised that the article calls it "hardcore" (slides 38-39). But it does bring to mind a more devious challenge: Someone ran "chmod -x ld.so"...

In a lot of video games, the entire scene is in focus, presumably because the developers can't know where you're actually looking. In that context, it doesn't feel weird at all (though I wonder if that's part of why some people get sick wa

That same write call can exist in C++ too, with exactly the same consequences. Everything ugly in C can be done in C++, but C++ lets you be so much uglier. int i = 42; foo->bar(i); In C, we can tell that foo is either a "struc
