Everyone on my team, including myself, mutters to themselves like this. I’ve asked some of my team members about it to determine if it bothers them and was surprised to find they feel the same way I do. It’s actually somewhat endearing. Gra

This can vary a ton as well. I was talking to a friend yesterday who said he was pounding a native browser interface with an iterator and experiencing slow performance. He switched to buffering the entire thing into memory first and experie

I wish more web developers felt that way about VC-backed tech startups. If they did, we might have less churn.

This is wild. Is the land very flat? At least in my state, you’re required to complete a Hunter education course and pass a written, proctored exam starting at age 12. It was at least 75% safety. We were taught to always know what we’re sho

Normally an upvote is enough but I just have to say that your enthusiasm about this made me smile so wide. This is great.

What’s odd is that was eight days ago now and this article was published today. I’m not complaining. I just find it interesting that the author of the article wouldn’t mention that given that it was published today.

Chopping wood or similar, maybe? I think it’d be a miracle they didn’t bleed out but I’m not a doctor. The next sentence in the article suggests it couldn’t have been an accident but the reasoning seems odd.

Curious, indeed. I guess it depends on what they mean by clean here. I would think serrations would leave traces (very small, jagged edges) on the bone, but if it did I’d also think they’d mention it. It’s very odd. I guess the alternative

What kind of commitment are we talking about though? It’s pretty hard to quickly tell if I’m in the target demo or not right now.

GP’s comment is also odd because the article notes they took your approach. They documented the problem when they first noticed it happening infrequently and moved on to higher priorities. When it started happening every single day it becam

I don't think you're alone in this sentiment. I found myself on the wikipedia article for cons and found this witty quip in the Usage in Conversation section[0]: > I sped up the code a bit by putting in side effects instead of

I think you’re thinking of a Philip K. Dick short story. I’ll see if I can find it. Edit: I was thinking of autofac, which is kind of like what you’re describing but arguably it was only a small plot detail. People get downvoted for the str

Thanks for sharing this. I’ll check it out in a bit deeper detail soon. First reaction though: How many query languages does one need and why has Facebook come to define so many of them? It’s pretty interesting but also somewhat suspicious.

Wow! Very weird to find my home state and birthplace on HN this morning. Some of these places are even new to me. I hadn’t heard of Crump’s sink, for example, which seems to be a more recent find.

If point 1 is true then why is 0.1 + 0.2 = 30000000000000004? Is that not close enough to zero? Edit: It seems I’m conflating “precision” with “accuracy”, which is a separate concept in math.

Most people appear to have a very one-dimensional view of the environment overall. If this is true, it means that even if most agree urban sprawl is bad people still struggle to agree on how to fix it. Have you ever read William Cronon’s Th

I have good evidence to believe one of the PaaS we use at work uses K8s for deployments under the hood but it’s not like that provides any portability to us; and they certainly don’t advertise that. How is this any different? I guess my poi
