I'm still confused. They present an example where they load data from local storage but do not make it clear how that data is passed out to the app. What if I'd like to always initialize my app's state with the data in local

I meant for this to be included in the scope of my comment but I was short on time. You stated it better, and you’re completely right. The problem I was alluding to was related to a hook deciding when to rerender based on dependency lists.

No, it’s not different. Y Combinator does want to be be bailed out. The old title wasn’t “Y Combinator wants Silicon Valley Bank to be bailed out.” Depositors aren’t going to get completely hosed by this anyway. And as for the domino effect

I think it's more than the median developer, and I think part of it may be due to React being a victim of its own success in some ways. The scope of requirements for many kinds of common hooks has expanded dramatically. Yesterday I fou

There is a real desire to build, but the issue is that local governments have to sign off on things to do so. For example, Palmdale (outside LA) will be getting a stop even though it's out of the way and will make the entire line 12 mi

You know, this is true. I was a bit too dismissive about it because I haven't done a lot of deploying models myself. I was making the assumption that it was similar to many other services, but even looking at pricing for managed GPUs o

Is there any chance you could expose a pathway to use a local instance of Whisper? I ask primarily because OpenAI completely open-sourced Whisper in September 2022[0]. It seems odd to me to default to or encourage the usage of a paid servic

I agree. Kudos to the author for sharing a working example of using the OpenAI's PHP Whisper client though. Digging a bit deeper into the organization that released this seems to provide more context: https://beyondco.de

pcthrowaway is more or less right. Tailwind dramatically improves code coverage. A majority of tailwind's common utilities are used in every page's components or templates. There are exceptions. We could use postCSS to code-spli

If I can chime in here, yeah that’s the gist although I’ll say Tailwind isn’t a panacea. My team and I still write vanilla CSS, but it’s less common and much more navigable. It’s usually because the Tailwind version (if the utilities exist)

It’s a bit odd though, because I’ve heard plenty of stories with those conditions where that’s still not true. One example is bank software that must run on IE11 because IT refuses to upgrade the equipment and security isn’t a priority beca

Maybe it’s sarcasm? On the other hand, the new school does have it pretty good these days with the evergreen browsers, so it could be genuine lack of perspective. Webkit is stubborn and slow moving, but nothing like what we endured with IE,
