What upgrade? There's not a phone on the market that's meaningfully more compelling than my Pixel 5a. Maybe if I gamed on my phone or something, it would matter? But my camera is already better than I could ever reasonably need. M

I have never seen as much negativity for an open source project on Hacker News as I have seen in every single Matrix thread . It is unbelievable. The only thing that might come even close is FlatPak. It's been going on for years and

I have high hopes for the future of Matrix in large part because of the Matrix Foundation. But what happens at Element when you and Amandine leave? What stops Element from being bought by a huge corporation that takes the whole thing propri

Diffusion is typically passive, sometimes (rarely) guided. But actual genome delivery usually requires energy stored in the capsid. For membraneous viruses, it's usually energy stored in the spike/fusion protein, plus some help fr

The viral capsid, or the spike proteins/binding proteins, are in a metastable state. Upon interaction with the host/target, they use that energy to rearrange into a lower energy state. Genome delivery is usually associated with th

I was wondering about that, too. The data are very clear: if you grow up with married parents, you will do better. But, should everyone be rushing off to get married, or is marriage selective for people who will do better? Or is it partly s

There's real overhead. For instance, one spec that comes to mind the vendor starts the 0,0 pixel in the lower right. The spec calls for 0,0 to be the lower left. That leads to an inverted handedness for all images. Not a problem in pro
