That seems weird. There was no search engine that was willing to pay money to be default outside of US, China, and Russia?

Yes, that's what the article says. The article says Waymo dismissed their last patent claims after they heard that this guy was contesting them.

Yeah, it makes Uber look kind of incompetent, like they didn't do their research (Google too). If he was hired by Uber to do the research, only Google would look incompetent.

What are the downsides? If it's an improvement and not a regression I don't see a reason to call it absurd.

What do you think they should do? This is at least a step in the right direction, and could lead to more of an ecosystem developing.

I don't understand how license compliance matters here. Why does the big customer care about whether the seller has violated licenses? The seller would be the one in trouble, not the customer.

I wouldn't think so. Google got a $2.7B fine for showing shopping ads in search results, because it was an "illegal advantage". They would almost certainly say the same thing about deleting Amazon search results. https:/

I am a white male. I'm not going to downvote, dismiss or attack you, just as I'm not going to downvote, dismiss or attack black people. My point was not that society is fair to women, and I'm sorry if it sounded like that. My

Gender seems different than race. With race the inequality is passed on through the generations. You inherit the discrimination against your ancestors. Gender inequality is not really passed on, because whether someone is rich or poor, male

Your downside I don't think applies in this case. Because it's a single application wanting to make a single reliable connection. So if there was any packet loss at all it would have to stall the whole connection anyways regardles

They have an incentive to give you ads you will click on. If you're not going to click on it, then there's a disincentive to show it to you.

Yes, but if the consent checkbox is nestled among a lot of other useful checkboxes, the user will likely accept it because they won't notice that it's different at all. And how granular do these consents have to be? Would there be

But does the website itself where the ads are shown need to get consent? How about this, what if I own a.com and embed an image from b.com (a completely different organization from me). And then b.com tracks the users' IP addresses, ur

I was under the impression that the move of industry to China was due to cheap labor, not due to different banking regulations. Is it possible to get a loan in the US and use it to build a factory in China? How about vice versa? Because if

So I need to explicitly accept targeted ads from every company that shows targeted ads? Does this mean every website that shows targeted ads, or can a blanket large provider (e.g. Google) get a single consent and apply it to all websites ho
