My first run-in with vi was on the Amiga, Aztec C bundled this "vi-like" editor called Z, I thought I'd try it out without reading the docs. I hadn't expected that the Amiga menu-bar would be empty and I had no idea that

Aye, very happy to have found what look like really viable alternatives, this is promising. And if I manage to make the transition, I will eventually want to try out more sophisticated distro's like Arch, I am quite sure of that.

Well, my head is spinning, but I've made a bit of progress. I thought I'd start by trying out a few of the ones you and others have characterized as user-friendly as well as one of the more bare-bones ones. The (hopelessly unscien

This is excellent and indeed largely novel information, thank you. It sounds like the finding right combination of DE and package management solution plays a big role here. I don't remember much of my experience with Gentoo's pack

Interesting. I regularly use RHEL (server/CLI only) but have not tried desktop Linux in a while. I get a fair bit of weekly exposure to Windows 10 and well, it's not like heaps of fun, UX wise. I'm reluctant to drop Apple mai

Not a D expert, I'm currently using D for a side-project and having a great time learning as I go. IMVHO Walter Bright is right and much of 'So You Want To Write Your Own Language?' still holds.

Interesting and +1 to the question, what do you guys think? I'm still planning to look into Perl 6. What I like about Perl 5.x is its high out-of-the box availability (ie: no need to ask sysadmin to allow/install Ruby, Node etc..)

I'm not quite at 1400 (yet!) but I truly depend on it... a fresh install of macOS feels broken without it. Even better when combined with Karabiner, as you too suggest. PS: great site!
