There are parts of the United States where the average age of a woman when she has her first child is 30. All things being equal, that would make a first-time grandparent 60 years old at the birth of her grandchild and over 80 at his colleg

Space launch vehicles have self-destruct buttons (including the Space Shuttle) but they also carry enormous kinetic force. A balloon gone wild doesn't need to be destroyed. To your broader point, it doesn't seem especially risky t

Some native plants can handle that kind of temperature change better than others. I wish there were a database of plants that are both native and climate resilient for different areas.

This is worth emphasizing. Tesla's detractors would likely give them the benefit of the doubt if Tesla had a track record like Boeing's.

You nailed it. I used to be full time remote and I still manage a remote team. We talk about immediate things every day, but we're also have scheduled calls where we talk about the big picture of how things are going.

I agree with you and the parent comment. I run a data science department and we rely on SQL. We even embed SQL queries into R scripts to pull the latest data. It isn't worth working with ORM for an analytics project when a few dozen li

Think about the minimal cost of a case going to trial. Maybe $2,000 to pay outside counsel for one appearance to request dismissal? The costs balloon exponentially from there. I don't understand why Wag wouldn't offer at least $50

When this was originally on HN, I was impressed and signed up as a paying subscriber. Over time, I noticed development had stopped and the tiny things that I used to work around started to annoy me more. It's still a neat platform but

I run data science in a company that publishes email newsletters. We store every delivery and event record as a row in our database. This gives us so much flexibility.

I agree that it's worth paying for quality, but I didn't pay €1400 for my bed. I paid less than $1000 (€881) and am quite happy with it several years later. I agree with the other comments that suggest an upper limit to the amount

As a Christian, I accept that God is impossibly complex. The Bible uses a lot of memes that were well known at the time to describe God. We run into trouble when people start to look at those memes as if they were meant literally.
