How did they monetize it? I've worked in digital advertising and I can't imagine the adult content would get the same CPMs as general interest.

I used to love SU! So much so that I gave it up for Lent one year. It brought back the serendipity of the old web.

I can understand GP's interest in parental custody. That's an incredibly difficult issue that almost always ends in heartbreak for someone. Your claim is... different. People falsely claim to have been raped far far FAR less often

It's interesting how some Wikipedia articles are carefully fact checked and other articles at the same notability level were clearly written by PR hacks. I do my part when I find the latter. I remember going back and forth with someone

I wonder why people are digging in on the accusation that CR has provided inaccurate ratings of moving companies. Very easy to disprove.

I completely agree with you. There are plenty of reasons that someone might not use a website for a long time. I didn't use Amtrak from March 2020 through November 2021 and I'm glad I didn't lose my account status. "Sorr

Agreed. I like that there are so many resources for people who want to learn how to program to hit the ground running. Some of the classic textbooks are wonderful for going back and filling in knowledge gaps. I'm at a point in my caree

+1 for Concrete Mathematics. Learning more about discrete math had an immediate impact on my job as a data scientist.

This is an absolute requirement for all of my smart home devices. Not only in case of an outage but also in case the manufacturer decides to stop supporting my device in the future. My Roomba, litter box, washer/dryer, outlets, lights,

I asked my friend who's a senior dev if he ever uses recursion at work. He said whenever he sees recursion in a code review, he tells the junior dev to knock it off.

Totally agree! I have a background in government data science. As I rose up the ranks at the government contractor where I work, more and more of my job focused on corporate stuff that was outside of my wheelhouse. I used to be intimidated

Writing succinctly is a difficult skill that requires practice. The US government has put a lot of work into making things easier to understand in recent years. I have a Masters in Public Administration. My professors hammered home the idea

Agreed! I've only found a few great examples of books like this, such as Advanced R. There's a lot of "You can skip this chapter if you already know how to answer the following questions..."

Here in the United States, doors are generally required to open out towards the nearest exit. Helps prevent panic in case of fire.

I recommend the book Cheap: The High Cost of Discount Culture. The author talks about how the market for consumer goods has been bifurcated into insanely cheap and stupid expensive.

I agree that this project emphasizes the unfortunate state of copyright. The last Civil War veteran died in the 1950s. Imagine he had written a memoir of his war experiences. If the United States had always had its current copyright laws, t
