No. It's just hard to find good people willing to work for crap. A lot of what startups offer is crap.

Bump the numbers by, let's just say 50k, and I'm sure they'll find talented people applying.

That's because men are not systematically discriminated against in the way women are. These "won't someone please think of the men?!" arguments are tired and not good.

You'll note that I never said it was not useful, but rather it was not this powerful magic sauce that can do anything. > Which is not surprising. Actually nobody with a clue makes such a claim. Most Lisp books make this claim.

This doesn't have to be true (though working around it is admittedly difficult) and I'm really disappointed to hear about the replacement. You can't spawn 10k native threads without grinding your application to a halt, whic

Yes, exactly my point. Macros are very powerful but not a magic sauce that makes Common Lisp infinitely extendable. Some things you actually need to change the underlying implementation for.

This is only telling half the story. It is perfectly true for, say, Python (still a pain to deploy on Windows, or at least it was the last time I tried), but newer languages that are less popular like Go do not have this problem. Even Rus

I'm not the above poster but I think the power of macros is way overhyped and not nearly as strong as people claim. I see the claim of "you can write a macro to do it" for any imaginable feature all the time , but it is simp

They need real time. 5 minutes is not "real time". Twitter is real time. They need to meet their audience where their audience can meet them. Just about every phone nowadays can access Twitter in an immediate and obvious way. Twit

I didn't know about that site so I went and checked it out. Holy crap. Most of the listings there are completely hilarious. They expect anyone to work in the bay area for those salaries? (and I'm a different demographic than you -

I never understood how those unlicensed "Chinatown buses" managed to survive anyway. Their fares weren't any cheaper than their licensed (and FAR safer) brethren in Megabus.

I'm sure this is a completely fair characterization of the situation and not a one-sided rant that lacks in crucial information.

It's not a straw man for me -- it's what I think of a lot of Lisp code. I think it's really instructive to compare things written in the early days of Clojure to Clojure right now. Some times I just want to find the author

Say what? Both replies are saying that macros can make it tough to read. (Though, personally, I don't have a problem with most macros -- just reader macros.)

Basic Lisp is pretty readable. But, ironically, if you dump enough reader macros into your code it becomes very unreadable very quickly. Most Lisp code I've seen is heavy on the reader macros.

It was ridiculous. These languages are now all dead, because they never gained the mindshare compared with the languages that were free, which eventually led to their decline. That's the point.

It's not about finding dates. You don't go there with the intention to find dates -- you go there with the intention to meet women .

What's wrong with the friend zone? See: http://www.qwantz.com/index.php?comic=2615 (This is a snarky way of saying that friendship is its own reward.)

What you need to do is go somewhere where women exist. Find extracurricular activities that tend to skew heavily towards women, and see if any such activities interest you!
