I think that from "I spent about a decade on the C committee—and [2] unlike Schildt, I actually showed up [..]" we can assume that he has some kind of history with the person in question [1]. Peter seems also to get quite some share of hate

I found this article interesting to explain a bit more [1]. Then I was still not happy and tried it myself. Basically it is a tool that lets you choose what frontend you want to use e.g. w3m, lynx, firefox etc. and gives you shortcuts to ce

There is a easy rule of thumb. Make a backup of your important stuff often and regularly no matter how many redundancies are in place (see Murphy's law). Right now? Yes, like really right now if you didn't. EDIT: Spelling

Thank you for pointing that out to me. I think my opinion of BBC was too high. Have to be more careful.

The infinity is a fascinating concept, but be careful it can drive you insane and into madness [1]. At least that happend to Georg Cantor and Kurt Goedel and some other famous minds. [1] See "BBC: Dangerous Knowledge" e.g. http://www.abdn.

This made my day. :D Sorry this was too funny had to paste my favorite: 1983 - Bjarne Stroustrup bolts everything he's ever heard of onto C to create C++. The resulting language is so complex that programs must be sent to the future to be c

Rabble. Not even funny. The first language learning question is a though one. (1) Probably the best would be anything which goes out of your way to concentrate on the important concepts behind it. (2) It depends on the way you want to teach

Interesting thought. I suppose if computers were originating from China that would probably be the case. I doubt though that if they wanted to sell it to some other countries, the buyers, e.g. US, Europe consumers etc. would accept that inc

While I appreciate change and improvements, I just wonder if this is really a good idea. Websites are language specific but URLs were forced to a limited character set. This was making it at least easy for everybody to type it. No matter if

I can understand your point, but I came to the conclusion (after 20+ languages) that thinking in just one language can be quite harmful to find a good solution for a problem. Actually PG puts it really nicely [1]: "The right way to solve th

While I appreciate the idea and criticisms of the post, I dislike the strong wording of this rant. I think that designing a language that can solve all possible problems is beside the point. A language is a tool and used for different tasks
