Amen. Animal agriculture (innocuously referred to as "agriculture" in the article) has to be the single biggest contributor to the existence of these superbugs.

Cool. Waiting for more specific details following the previous announcements about progress made in OS X for decreased CPU usage. If Safari wasn't that annoying for me to use then I'd switch to it on OS X. It's just smoother

I don't know the form and size of the snippet, I'm assuming it's rectangular because I don't see a reason for it not to be.. I think We're still having an issue at the poles: If you take a rectangular snippet out of

Thanks! Interesting.. So if I'm understanding correctly it's doing a spherical projection onto a plane, we get to navigate that plane, and every snippet of that plane-projection we see is being projected back into 3D somehow? It c

Does anyone know what makes this "video" tick? I have a couple of ideas but I prefer informed answers over my guesswork.

Still waiting to hear if the El Capitan beta is stable enough for daily use. I'm with no ability to backup my MBP but the new improvements tempt me to download the beta..

I wonder what the median prices are. This smells like it might be the case that most hotels cost significantly less than the average but a few super ridiculously expensive ones jack up the average by a very large margin.

Can anyone explain to me why startup speed is such an important factor for them? I really can't get my head around it. It's such a non-issue for me. I care so much more about general performance post-startup. I wouldn't even

Thank you! This is really great stuff. Totally unrelated, I noticed I got downvoted. I hope it didn't seem like I'm going to cheat or anything. I was just looking for good reference material.

A bit off-topic but since I got a Mac and found out about this - Google Dictionary became obsolete. The Mac dictionary works offline as well so I'm able to look things up during commutes without WiFi.

What you said really resonated with me. Especially your professed sources of motivation and how programming for its own sake was never enough.

If you don't think about the underlying implementation of erlang:length(), this seems to me like an easy mistake to make. Lots of data structures keep a size field and access it in O(1), so it's not completely unreasonable to expe

Well, you do need to know that there exists an item in the queue. Knowing that length > 0 is one way to go about it, but certainly it's enough to establish the existence of one item and then move on. If one is unaware of the complex

Thank you so much for your input. This really does sound like the best way to move forward. At the end of the day I feel like I really want to understand how these engines work, and I felt like the best way to understand that is to create o

I haven't, actually. This is something that I have considered but didn't actually know where I should start. The transition from 2D to 3D is pretty daunting, though. I do know a thing or two about using a 2D engine (assuming they
