I wish there was more discussion around the technical stuff, especially the things in the pipeline: The lightning network, Schnorr signatures, Hashed TimeLock Contracts, Merklized Abstract Syntax Trees, the Simplicity language, etc.

The fees are very low, and all the same sizes. My take on this is this is partisans of big blocks saturating the original chain; as if to try to prove a point. It does cost them some little amount of money, though.

Thanks for this reference code! I got to say, Ethereum really is showing the way to Bitcoin here. The smart contract ecosystem surrounding it is astounding. ---- The BTC equivalent would be to do it by hand; and I don't think it is al

How is that technically possible to prevent? The miners in the two chains gain from listening to what is going on in the other chain, and could just copy transactions and take the commission. Have no miner attempted to grab some fees? Or ma

Not years. The difficulty is recalculated every 2016 blocks (14 days)[1]. If one chain has 10% hashing power, for less or equal to 14 days the transactions could take 10 times more to validate. But that's assuming markets aren't c

I'm starting to see a bit clearer on how a fork would pan out: Miners: Hashing power has little influence. As long as there are miners, and two chains rejecting each other transactions will be processed. At first, transactions processi

As long as one miner is still mining the core chain, the transaction will be validated. It may take a little while at first, but difficulty will adapt. It's going to be 2 legitimate currencies that are going to differ in value in excha

That's assuming hashing power will determine the outcome. In the exchanges runs will take place. The actual economic users will vote this issue out. In the end spreadsheets will be updated, and miners won't want to spend their ele

You are actually right. It is not the exchange that would be affected, provided they haven't taken positions in their own markets. Exchanges should make it pretty clear on which chain they will be operating, still. I don't think t

To me, hashing power is not the process by which the outcome will be decided. IMHO, the percentage of technical signalling will not even matter that much. Two chains will get created quite quickly. And some BTC holders will try to take adva
