I would love for someone else to take care of our headache for us :) Unfortunately, we have enough data that our service doesn't fit well within 3rd party hosting services' pricing plans -- there are other concerns with offloading such an i

Right now we use OAuth as much as possible, so that you don't have to give out your credentials -- we've been thinking about taking some other steps to eleviate these concerns, in the future.

Hey dreww, did you signup for an account early on? I've taken steps to fix the aspect ration recently :) Right now we don't allow you to delete attachments out of your Gmail account from attachments.me -- great suggestion though.

One other thing I should have noted is that, because of Mongate's batch functionality, depending on the type of data you are inserting, you can actually get better performance from it vs. an SSH tunnel. Here are some tests I ran, benchmarki

An SSH tunnel might be what we ultimately end up using. The HTTP service layer was meant to be a bit of an abstraction as well, in case we ultimately ended up going with another key/value store, e.g., HBase or Casandra -- having said that,

This video is really cool, designing looks so much cooler than coding when time-lapsed :) -- then again, coding looks pretty awesome in movies like Hackers.

Currently it's just an Object Mapper really, I just figured that acronym doesn't mean much to people... an OM for CouchDB, just doesn't snap ;)

I disagree, regarding JavaScript's ability to scale. It is quite easy to implement classical inheritance inside JavaScript, public and private methods really do not seem like a must have to me for code to be 'scallable'. It seems to me that

Yeah, for my personal website I'm about to try out node.JS with MongoDB -- I think it will be an exciting experiment. As more frameworks grow up around technologies like these, I really think server-side JavaScript makes a ton of sense -- m

Some of the server-side JavaScript stuff is really slick. APE ( http://www.ape-project.org/ ) runs JavaScript on the server-side, for instance. You basically write a client and server in JavaScript and it uses Comet to push events to the

Here's the cool thing about a Java-Applet-based game, it can run OpenGL in your web-browser, that's all I'm saying ;) also, the game was built three years ago, around the time my friends and I were insanely addicted to Runescape in the comp

I agree completely, I think that the site for HackWars (which I happen to be partially responsible for maintaining) is a horrible usability failure. We went with the Drupal CMS early on, which has a template system that, with my limited CSS

I'd like to chime in and point out that the Java approach had by far the best performance (about 7 seconds), for all you Java haters out there ;)
