I can't imagine any startup having a lack of ideas though. It's somewhat amusing seeing this on the front page right along with the how to pick an idea.

Internet search is a completely different domain than this sort of language lookup. Also, look at the hardware required to run this!

The speech and listening training sounds very similar to what I went through with my hearing aids, called auditory-verbal therapy. I've got severe/profound loss in both ears, but I never really learned ASL since I was diagnosed ~2 and start

Dialogs like that should be reserved for important, irreversible changes but instead are used everywhere. They're no longer read and solely seen as an interruption to the program flow. Always providing undo, or a delayed action without inte

I had a similar experience using Jekyll. I really like it, but I suspect it's more hacker-oriented. I did toy with the idea of making yet-another-blogging platform that was Jekyll based, simply because going flat file gets around a lot of t

Pretty much what I would have written. The real target shouldn't be 'make X websites.' It would be make X sites until there's one that clicks in terms of your interest or income potential and you can devote the rest of 2011 to it.

Which is why it goes back to what your needs are! Site for a company with a half-mil employees would be insane to use Wordpress, an individual blogger would go insane (and broke) trying to us Interwoven.

Nice answer, there's a vast number of CMS systems out there from the free to the pricey (Interwoven, etc). I'll echo that the choice really depends on what kind of site you are developing. Frankly, for most blogs a CMS system is total overk

You still need to decide what's important though. A pretty page doesn't always perform better, and can appearance changes after the fact negate any A|B testing you just did. You can't dissociate A|B test from appearance.

I think it's actually smart given the way teens behave. You know how fast things can spiral out of control (look at Lamebook, etc). Someone trusted today might not be tomorrow.

This is great, but I think EVERY tech company struggles with finding the right balance here. Where I currently work, they also fail each and every one of these.

A couple Philly guys are doing the same thing as phillycowrimo - just to finish a usable code project in a month, no matter the state. Some are going to be webapps, some iPhone. Should be a fun experiment, and if it's successful we'll repe

I think it's more that now Ellison owns Java/Sun, he wants control. Jobs was happy to hand over the resource-suck since he sees the future as iOS apps and appstore anyway.

Don't fall into the passive income trap. How many hours have you spent creating this tool that could have been spent freelancing or at a PT job. Or talking to prospective clients BEFORE creating the tool? There are a ton of products already
