Neat, You and I had similar things in mind when building our HN apps. What prompted you to build one too? In my case, it was the lack of login and vote support in every other app I'd tried.

One of the things I added to Hacker News Padreader was to mark what's been read. Give it a shot: http://itunes.apple.com/app/hacker-news-padreader/id42833141...

Different goals! The OP's aim is a "Minimum Viable Kitchen (MVK) for creating gourmet food".

Testflight has made it a LOT easier, granted Apple could change things entirely one day and leave them dead in the water. XCode has significantly improved in auto provisioning too, still painful when something breaks, but not as bad as it w

Great rundown of the process for your first app! I do disagree that knowing web UI instantly qualifies you to build an iOS interface. I've seen some bad app designs from people very good at the web. Generally, I think the problem is not res

Shotgunning isn't the best approach either. Ideally, you should be in contact with reviewers BEFORE launch.

This is really fustrating, especially with the return to even crazier prices for the BTO options. I happily paid the extra to boost my iMac graphics when I bought it, but that's not even an option now. Want all SSD? Better have deep pockets

Well, Amazon also has the exact same ability to add anything on the web - add-on/extension available for most browsers. Importing my existing amazon list would be an incentive for me to at least try it in more depth. However, I might view i

Cool implementation, but wouldn't use it personally. Mostly because my immediate family already knows about Amazon wishlists, which also let you add anything (even not on amazon). I'll admit the interface is a lot cooler here. Have you look

Which drives me crazy. If I want to zoom, let me. I don't care of the designer wants a pixel perfect layout, that's not the web.

Is everyone forgetting that you can easily zoom on any iOS device?

Agreed, It wasn't until recently I actually realized how badly a lot of my stuff fit! Since then I've been more picky about it, and it is hard. Some retailers are better about it (lands' end canvas) and some carry a slim/tailored fit option

I develop for iOS and chugging that koolaid, but Surface really doesn't deserve such a scathing article. There's a definite lack of polish and kludgey details, but I'd rather have surface over an android tablet right now.

"Presentation Zen" gives you the keys to making great decks like this. My presentations improved drastically. There is a ton more work involved but it shows.

Better yet would be to get supported by CPanel/SimpleScripts (provided with millions of hosting accounts).

The root of it is that most things still assume ASCII, etc by default. I griped about this a while ago, as a whole, we should be moving all our tools to being UTF-8 by default, and ASCII being the 'odd' case instead of the other way around!

Far too unstable for my tastes, especially with an iMac. I paid slightly more and got an 11" high coffee table from Ikea for $40 to drop on top of my existing desk. it has worked out really well for me, and provides more storage under. Clea

Aha, thank you for that tidbit of information. That explains why converting with QT took two hours for a particular file format, and I re-did the same thing with Handbrake in 20 minutes.

The apple docs are pretty comprehensive. I think of it as you're not going to learn English by reading a dictionary. The specific example apps that apple provides that demonstrate one particular thing are great though.

I've admittedly seen a lot of 'why' type companies in the education space, but I think it's more the lack of familiarity than an intent to snow people. At KinderTown we do have actual teachers working for us, and even though I've been readi
