Keep in mind, the STL isn't limited to the containers, there are tons of algorithms that are very useful for embedded programming that don't throw exceptions, are vetted, and are as efficient as hand-written algorithms.

If I understand you and the standard correctly, no: the default behavior is `memory_order_seq_cst` "On weakly-ordered systems (ARM, Itanium, PowerPC), special CPU load or memory fence instructions have to be used." http:/&#x

“You can not express the needed instructions in standard C or C++ code.“ As of 2011, you can. In C++ it’s with std::atomic. http://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/atomic/atomic C11 offers comparable tools, I believ

I'm not sure what that wall does, but the easiest way to find intersections, roots, etc. of Bézier curves is to use their convex-hull property and recursively bisect them. The convex hull property is that the curve is within the convex

Along these lines, the first major Python project I used I was amazed Python was used. It's a real-time 3D reconstruction system operating on a live video stream. That was ten years ago. There was some assembly and C at the very core,

Both, but lots of science. In particular, convolution is linear so if you know what you want a bright dot (a single pixel—a delta function) to look like, then that is your kernel. Want a dot to look like a fuzzy blob? Then your kernel shoul

One way of thinking about it is that work is force times distance, so if you aren't moving WRT the bike, and push just as far work goes by force. Assuming you don't have toe clips and so aren't pulling up with one foot while

I have never ridden one either but weight on the pedals shouldn't matter. If you push down on a pedal as you extend your leg leaving your body at a constant height, that should be the same work as pushing just as hard over just as far

My favorite example of why τ is the true circle constant is actually the equation A = 1/2 τ r^2. It fits the usual quadratic form and shows how circumference and area relate: c = dA/dr = τ r and so A = ∫ c dr = ∫ τ r dr = 1/2

For memory ownership, look no further than `std::unique_ptr`. With the features introduced in C++11, it is an elegant, inexpensive way to clearly and safely denote memory ownership and to have that memory cleaned up when it goes out of scop
