My heart is aching for the owner. At the same time I feel a sense of relief because I am moving between countries. A lot of what I am doing these days is giving away my "stuff" and shedding attachments to "things". I do

There are enough SQL oopsies in this article to show that you should NEVER use sqlite for any production except as filter databases or other sort of throwaways. RDBMSs are there to enforce constraints on data.

This is partly the reason why I would never use anything besides VMs or baremetal I provision myself. I'd rather have scaling problems I can solve by provisioning more hardware than billing problems because I fudged the setup. Yes, AWS

I had a 5mx. Bought it for a business trip where I was making up an order from a wholesaler while examining the merchandise. Invaluable tool. Would have taken me a whole lot longer without it. Found it in storage the other day. Swapped in n

I'd say it is not hard but impossible. I have a hard enough time to get requirements specifications that are unambiguous. Proving I coded what I was asked for is not a rigorous science practice. It's a social contract.

It's a simplification but it isn't wrong. Mostly.

Modern computers can calculate with a very large finite precision using decimal types. We have so much machine to waste today that if calculations of that sort are relevant, just throw more iron at it.

This can be transpiled into SQL which makes it then trivial that it can do everything SQL can do. SQL is Turing complete so it can do anything PRQL can do. EDIT: I'm sorry, I didn't realize that even if something transpiles from o

Does Bing observe robots.txt? If it does, that can put your token URL out of harms way.

You would normally be able to solve things like this via file permissions in the OS but currently we are running everything as root inside a container.

Also: don't install curl in your container.

Any legislation passed by congress will get challenged by the states that want to restrict abortion. This court will side with the state challenging the federal law.

They want this to be up to the states. Federal legislation encroaches on the "laboratories of democracy".

And pray do tell how you think such legislation would fare against a challenge before the SCOTUS?

It turns out that the justices spoke very carefully and nothing they said precluded them from making a decision like this. Dishonest, yes. Perjury, no.

The legislation in Texas empowers citizens in collecting bounties from anyone aiding a woman (and the woman herself) in getting an abortion.

This court will never say a federal law allowing abortion is constitutional. Thomas is 74 and Alito is 72. A lot of stars need to align so that anything can be done about this. The lone thing I see changing the calculus is if women in red s

Last time I had to print something it was so I could turn it in as an attachment to an application with a government agency. I flatly refuse to work with dead trees wherever possible.

Yes, you are right. I didn't know that current tech is using 1550nm light. Wouldn't want to imagine the heat coming off the optical CPU using 2nm light. Yikes.

There are applications where silicon photonics outperforms semiconductor electronics. Imagine the performance you could get out of similarly sized optical gates.

I remember having been stymied by my US Amiga being NTSC so I couldn't do PAL video (living in Europe), otherwise I could have done some work for advertising agencies. Would have changed the trajectory of my life back in 1986.
